of the of the Concerned Health Sciences and Medicine 19 May Mindfulness Life Skill Week Concentration and AwarenessHome Practice Sheeti. The biggest challenge I encountered in my mindfulness practice was to develop a faith and belief in the efficacy of the process. To me it seemed something esoteric and strange. However, as I gradually proceeded with my daily practice, initially I came across a feeling of calm and poise that eventually graduated into a deeper understanding of my thoughts, emotions, feelings and sensations. ii. I have learnt that deep down at my core there exists something that is always calm and poised, irrespective of the rush and stress prevailing outside.

So now whenever I come face to face with a stressful situation, instead of rushing headlong into it, I take a deep breath and allow myself a moment to collect my calm and energy, so as to be able to deal with the situation in a better way. iii. Mindfulness could be immensely helpful to me:While dealing with stressful situations and circumstances. While opting for a home and work balance. In improving my health. In improving my decision making faculties. In developing an appreciation for my body, mind and nature.iv. The one attitudinal foundation of mindfulness that I would like to pay attention to is the ability to exist in the present moment.

Most of the stress is caused when one extrapolates the present situations in a past or futuristic context. This tendency to envisage events and problems in a past oriented or futuristic context takes away the focus from the present. Such an approach leads to an unwarranted dissipation of energy and resources and causes much stress. In contrast, when one tries to deal with problems and issues ‘here and now’, one gets so immersed in the task or the challenge at hand that one simply forgets to think about worrying or stress.
