Introduction Arty Fischel is a person who is interested in body building and he has accumulated some knowledge from a body building magazine. He hasbeen eating irregularly on day to day basis but eats twice in a week a double portion of protein. He is a person who attends gym and he is healthy. But he is not able to build muscle mass and is confused about this. There is a general notion that just eating protein can build muscle in people. However, the real processing of protein works in a systematic manner .Protein is a main nutrient needed in the body which works towards the building of body mass. Protein not only comes from pulses, meat, egg, milk but also from plant based food. Body building can be effectively achieved by vegan diet where a person gets rich protein and also there are other options for a body building. Protein is a main part of diet of people who are body building as it is the primary agent in building muscles mass. After the exercise schedule, most of the body builders consume rich source of protein .And against the myth a vegan diet can give a perfect body to anyone if there is a proper regime to it. What is vegan diet ? A diet which does not contain animal products is a vegan diet. Here the person neither consume egg ,milk or honey which means nothing which is coming from animals and it is not necessary for it to come from animal based food .Vegan diet is potential diet which can give a body builder what he wants? There are many vegan food sources which can give enriched protein to the person. The food like coconut, vegetable, nuts, flax seed, almond butter, chia seeds, soya ,maca powder are all enriched source of protein. However, eating protein whenever the person feel like would not work as body need nutrient when it demands not when we offer to it. If we want body to shape up we need to give it proper nutrients on a regular basis. Like any other thing, it needs to work on a consistent basis as body do not store protein like sugar. The body cannot synthesis an abundant protein at one time if need do not arise and excess protein get eliminated from body. Now why does this young man not building up muscle with the protein he is giving the body in a week. Let us look at how metabolic process and physiological implication with related to this study. Metabolic process The protein is needed by the body throughout its life and an average of one gram of protein is recommended per one pound of body weight. But a person who is building muscle need quality protein and that too an addition of 100 gram at least for good muscle mass to build over a period of time. The best way to get an effective metabolism is to build muscle and burn body fat by eating abundance quality protein with consistency. Since the person is not having adequate protein in the diet, his metabolism is not working to the fullest. So when he is exercising and eating he is not burning it properly as the protein is deficient in proportion to his exercise and body weight. Inadequate protein means your body is shutting down metabolism and body will become a fat storing machine. This will progressively break down muscle and produce more fat. When Fischel is not eating protein after exercising, actually he is not doing any good to his body. He is not burning fat as well as not growing lean muscles and this is the reason why he is growing fat. Eating adequate protein makes body a fat burning system and it will also make potential use of the exercise it is getting by building muscle. As per Neles, (2014) “Adding more protein but not more calories or exercise to your diet wont help you build more muscle mass, but it may put your other bodily systems under stress”. Muscles are building of protein and since this person is not having adequate food he is not actually having good metabolism. A slow metabolism means your body cannot work enough to burn calories and this means the body is not working in its natural way. From such a body nothing can be expected and also due to lack of nutrition and protein, the body stores fat as a protective measure. And, this is the reason why Fischel is gaining fat after exercise and so called inconsistent protein delivery. So when you look at body building from a bio molecular perspective more can be revealed. Biomolecule and protein synthesis The molecules within living organisms basically are composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen and sulphur. So the major types are carbohydrates, protein, lipids and nucleic acids. When it comes to protein it is a molecule which is made of amino acids and it is needed to build muscles and repair body and regulate bodily processes. Proteins are about 50% of the dry weight of most cells, and are the most structurally complex macromolecules known. Each type of protein has its own unique structure and function. Long chain of amino acids called polypeptides makes the component of complex protein make up. Protein digestion occurs when the food reaches the stomach and amino acids are metabolized in the liver which is later used by the tissue of the body. The body can use proteins for anabolic or catabolic purpose. Anabolism is a chemical process in which the digested food is used for build bodily tissue and repair. In catabolism the energy is released and this energy is sued by body. So, anabolism and catabolism go hand in hand as energy produced in catabolism is used for anabolism. Protein are vital to body and cellular functioning including cellular repair , regeneration, tissue regulation and maintenance, hormone and enzyme production, provision of energy and fluid balance. Protein is the main component of muscle, bones, organs, tendons and ligaments. However, protein is not a storable energy unlike fats and carbohydrates. So if we take this case study, when the person eats carbohydrate and fat it can used or stored but if he eats normal amount of protein it is used up immediately. And when the person exercises regularly there need to be good quality protein provision which is lacking in the diet of Fischel. And Fischel does not eat meals on proper intervals and the protein he is eating is used as energy and is not available for his body. Since protein is provided less it is expended on bodily functions rather on muscle building. As per Osterweill (2014)“But unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply”. Since the carbohydrate and fats he is eating is stored as these are not used for muscle building he is becoming fat. Additionally he needs to eat enough calories for the protein to be synthesized in the right manner. If calorie deficit and protein deficit is present then only he can nurture fat in the body. So he needs to eat three meals a day with right amount of nutrients and as additional portion of protein food daily. This diet with right can build his muscles over time. Conclusion Fischel is a prospecting body builder but his diet is not good enough to build muscle mass. There are many reasons why his body is reacting opposite to his desire. He is not getting results because he is following a wrong diet pattern. First of all he can enhance is mucle mass by choosing a better diet like vegan diet. Plant based protein unlike animal protein is more absorbable to body and is more qualitative. It is a misconception that vegans cannot build a muscle mass .Body building need to accompany with a consumption of high quality protein food. Now when it comes to vegan diet and body building is highly reliable. As per ( Dalton,) “Raw food is so highly nutritious the body let us know when we have an ample supply” “The main reason is that protein is also of better quality. As we think many animal protein is not synthesized like plant based protein .A vegan diet contains food which is not from animal source and the protein from vegetables, pulses and nuts are efficient than animal based food protein. The best source of protein from vegan diet are hemp seeds, flax seeds, canary crass, bee pollen, maca , spirulina . These are highly potential food which can not only build muscle but improve the overall health and energy of a person. If a person follow a vegan diet then he can efficiently build body muscle mass and his energy and immunity level. Vegans can get ample fat from coconut , almond, avocado , olives oil and nuts . Getting 20-30% of your calories from fat is a good way to go. A person can load up on healthy fats such as: flaxseed oil, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, almond butter, and avocadoes. So making choices like soya milk, coconut milk all can contribute to saturated fat and protein can come from enormously from almond butter, maca and bee pollen . A person needs around 200 gm of protein if he is of average height and weight. So a vegan with a good diet plan can include many varieties of food in his diet which are with high protein content. It can be more expensive and but is double efficient than animal based food and can give a stronger body and qualitative muscle mass. However ,this person can also follow other diet such as fish based or vegetarianism which can contribute to better body. A fish based diet with salmon, trout, eggs and vegetable can be as good as vegan diet and same is with vegetarianism who has chance to include milk ,cheese , yoghurt and butter in their diet.
