Essential Concepts for Healthy Living Introduction There are a number of ideas that were discussed with regard to e-cigarettes and their comparison to real cigarettes. As seen in the introduction part of the report, e-cigarettes are introduced as less harmful alternatives to tobacco. The introduction part of the report describes e-cigarettes to be battery-powered filled with some chemical. What is not clear is the exact composition of e-cigarette and if the chemical component can have any harmful effect to its users. Despite the fact that e-cigarettes do not have tobacco in them, they still have nicotine, which is found in tobacco plants. E-cigarettes have a liquid which contains glycerin, propylene glycol, nicotine, and flavourings that are always heated to give the user a similar feeling that they usually have when smoking. It is clear from the report that smoking of e-cigarettes exposes people to lesser risks as compared to the smoking of real cigarettes. However, the problem is that people have the misconception that smoking e-cigarettes is completely safe. Despite the fact that e-cigarettes might be safer than the normal cigarettes, it should not be assumed that they are totally safe. Many of the commercials that advertise e-cigarettes have misled people by failing to mention that e-cigarettes can have some harmful effect in the health of smokers and people in the environment. Furthermore, there is no sufficient of all the components that are used in making e-cigarettes. The fact that such information is not available does not mean that all the chemicals that are used in making e-cigarettes are safe. Purpose According to the report, e-cigarettes are not only attractive to smoker but also non-smokers. This implies that popularization of e-cigarettes will only lead to an increase in the number of smokers globally. Nicotine is an addictive compound and has some health effects (Roth, Cox & Hong 2011, p. 201). The only way that e-cigarettes can be safe is if they do not have nicotine in them. However, it is still impossible because nicotine is responsible for the cessation that people usually feel when they smoke e-cigarettes. This is a simple implication that there is a need for a way in which the possible problems that associate to the popularization of e-cigarettes can be curbed. Some of the solutions have been discussed in the previous report. In this report, the main purpose will be coming up with and implementation plan for the solutions. Ideas arising from Assessment 2 There are a number of control ideas that arose from assessment 2 research process. These ideas include: Use of legislation According to the assessment 2 research, just as the government has made sure that the consumption of normal cigarettes is controlled, the consumption of e-cigarettes should also be controlled. The asserting is that the use of e-cigarettes should be illegalized in public places. The report also asserts that selling of e-cigarettes to people under the age of 18 should be legalized. Such legislations processes will not be easy because the reasons for the illegalization will be debated by the legislators before the bill is passed. Since e-cigarettes will not produce any fire, no ash and no smoky smell, it will be a very hard task to convince the legislators that smoking e-cigarettes in public should be made illegal. However, in this case the reason would be that second hand, vapor might have some health effect on the people who are around when people smoke e-cigarettes in public. For this bill to successfully go through there will be the need for a legislature who will introduce the bill in the parliament and seek the support of other legislators in order for the bill to be passed into law (Heymann 2008, p. 216). Tax increment Taxation is one of the ways through which governments can discourage consumption of certain products. When taxations are high prices become high, thus making such products only affordable to a certain group of people. However, it should also be noted that this is not usually very effective for products that are addictive. For people who are addicted to cigarettes, high prices of e-cigarettes will only mean that they will turn to normal cigarettes. However, such an initiative can be effective in preventing people who are not addicted to smoking from starting smocking e-cigarettes with the impression that they are avoiding the harmful effects of actual cigarettes. Higher taxes will also mean that the younger people, especially teenagers will not be able to afford e-cigarettes because most of them do not have income generating means that would enable them to cope with the increased prices. Education There are some uncertainties regarding the health effects of smoking e-cigarettes. Given the nature of commercials relating to e-cigarettes, many people have the impression that smoking of e-cigarettes is completely safe. As a result of such assumptions, even people who never smoked before the introduction of e-cigarettes can start smoking. It is the responsibility of the government to make sure that the general public is aware of the negative effects of smoking e-cigarettes. The government should consider coming up with programs that will make sure that the most vulnerable section of the population are educated about the effects of smoking e-cigarettes. Lectures should be organized in all levels of learning institution so that the young generation, are most likely to be affected by these misconceptions are well informed of the effects of smoking e-cigarettes. The government should consider media education programs that will make sure that anyone who decides to smoke e-cigarettes does so knowing all the possible health and social effects of their decision. The use of television advertisements is one of the ways through which the information can be passed to the highest number of people in the shortest duration possible. This is because of the number of people who view televisions on a daily basis. In such a case the use of advertisement companies such as PO朝霆 can be advisable. A Social Value analysis Smoking has got some effect to the society whether it is e-cigarettes or normal ones. This is because of the fact that smokers always have to use money to buy cigarettes (Boyle 2004, p. 175). The money used in buying cigarettes would have been used in improving other aspects of their lives. For people with families, it has been noticed that some prefer buying e-cigarettes at the expense of providing for their families. This is basically because the addiction in e-cigarettes is not of any substance, but on the feeling that people usually get when they smoke (Mason 2010, p. 187). Once a person gets used to this feeling, they will always want to feel it more. Regardless of the prices, addicted people will always find a way through which they can get e-cigarettes. As a result, society is likely to have individuals who do not care about their social existence or obligations because they are addicted to smoking e-cigarettes. It has been advised that even smokers who are planning to quit smoking should not opt for using e-cigarettes as an exit strategy because they are almost equally addictive as normal cigarettes (Hanson, Venturelli& Fleckenstein 2015, p. 187). This fact can be used in the campaign against e-cigarette smoking. Most of the people do not see the smoke of e-cigarettes in this sense. In order to get people to see e-cigarettes as they are, it is important to let the people know the possible health effects of smoking e-cigarettes. There are researches that suggest that liquid nicotine can have some effect in the growth of brain among children and teenagers. Liquid nicotine can also be lethal when inhaled, absorbed or ingested (Henningfield, London &Pöğün 2009, p. 231). It will take only a teaspoon of most of the e-liquids available in the market to kill an adult. This is an implication that they can even be more dangerous to children and teenagers. No one ever wants to live with an illness or live with a loved one who is suffering from a health problem that has been caused by smoking e-cigarettes. Things can become even more serious when smoking of e-cigarettes leads to death. Given that most of the commercials depict e-cigarettes as harmless, it would be unfair to let people continue smoking e-cigarettes with the assumption that it has no effect to their health (Yusuf et al 2011, p. 208). The level to which this has gotten, it should be noted that the only way through which this can be avoided is makings sure that the general public is well informed of the health complications that are associated with smoking e-cigarettes. Parents should be well informed that e-cigarettes are likely to be more attractive to children as compared to the normal cigarettes. This is because e-cigarettes usually have flavors. Some of these flavours taste like candy. Immediately a child gets the impression that these cigarettes taste like candy they will always want to have a taste. It does not matter how frequently parents tell their children that e-cigarettes can be harmful to their health, they will always want to have their own experiences (Mcconnell 2014, p. 215). This is one of the reasons as to why smoking in public places should be made illegal. Some of the people who smoke usually make it look like they are having a great time. When children see such things, they will always want to know exactly how it feels to be smoking e-cigarettes. This will only lead to an increase in curiosity levels among children. Even if they will not get a chance to smoke e-cigarettes at that moment, they will always look forward to the time when they will have a chance to smoke e-cigarettes. When such chances present themselves, such children will take the chance. Such occurrences might be the beginning of their addiction to e-cigarettes (Henningfield 2007, p. 214). The worse thing is that when children start doing so at an early age, they have higher chances of influencing their peers. One thing about e-cigarettes is that they do not leave the smokers with the smoke scent. This implies that it will be almost impossible to notice that a person is from smoking e-cigarettes. Over the ages, the scent of tobacco has always been used by parents to know whether their children smoke cigarettes. The tobacco smell is also one of the reasons as to why many teenagers have always avoided smoking cigarettes (Nichter 2015, p. 123). Knowing that their parents will know that they had been smoking through the smell, almost everyone will fight the temptation of smoking cigarettes. However, things are different with e-cigarettes. Given the possible health and social effects of e-cigarettes no parent will want their children to be addicted to e-cigarettes. As much as some people might argue that e-cigarettes can be sued by cigarette addicts who want to stop the addiction, no parent would want their children to form the habit of smoking e-cigarettes after knowing the effects of smoking e-cigarettes (Marlatt, Larimer &Witkiewitz 2012, p. 276). Knowing that detecting e-cigarette smokers is hard, many parents will be of the idea that public smoking of e-cigarettes and its sale to people under the age of 18 be illegal. In fact, most parents will support any initiative aimed at ensuring that e-cigarettes are treated as the danger that they are to the wellbeing of the society. Many people have been misled to believing that a person who plans to stop smoking cigarettes can make the process much easier by starting smoke e-cigarettes. However, this is not true since such people will always crave for the cessation. Using e-cigarettes do not help people in getting rid of their addiction to cigarettes. Instead, e-cigarettes give people an alternative way of satisfying their addiction. At the end of the day such individuals still remain to be addicted. Addiction to cigarettes is not attributed to any substance, but to the feeling that smoking induces in the human brain. This is the same feeling that e-cigarettes induces. This is a simple implication that there is nothing that changes when a person stops smoking the normal cigarettes and starts smoking e-cigarettes (Alters & Schiff 2013, p. 199). The craving that both satisfy is the same. Most professionals will always insist that people who plan on quitting cigarette smoking should use the methods have been approved instead of opting for an easier “option” that has not yet been proved scientifically (Washton & Zweben 2011, p. 196). Anybody who has not been smoking cigarettes should not be misled by the commercials that are all over asserting that e-cigarettes are safe. They might be safer than normal cigarettes, but that does not mean that they are safe. There are still many things that are not known about e-cigarettes. There are chemicals that are used in the production of e-liquids that many people have not yet known the effects. It would not be advisable ability for a person to make such important decisions on the assumptions. People should ask themselves if some of the speculated effects of e-cigarettes turn out to be true with time. People should also note that e-cigarettes contain liquid nicotine, which has its own effects to the health of users (Hazelden Foundation 2013, p. 201). If a person decides to start smoking e-cigarettes with the assumption that they are harmless, they will be highly disappointed when the currently alleged effects of smoking e-cigarettes turn out to be true. Partnership Agreements The name of the company is PO朝霆. The company’s strength is on innovation. In this case they will use the above mentioned social factors relating to e-cigarettes, smoking to come up with a compelling advertisement that will be able to convince the general public of the effects that smoking e-cigarettes can have on the health of individuals and the society. They will take into consideration the fact that the advert will be compelling to all the affected individuals. The company will carry out a research on the most appropriate media and the target audience so that they can be able to do everything in accordance to the kind of result that they aim at getting. The company should be ready to take any responsibility for their activities. Therefore, they should make sure that they undertake proper research on the effects of e-cigarettes on the health of human beings. Any information that will be given to the public in the advertisements should be accurate. However, this does not been that creativity and innovation should be downplayed. The aim of this advertisement will not be to just deliver the message, but to convince the general public of the information that is being communicated. Therefore, they should be creative enough to come up with compelling ways to present the information to the general public. Overview of Internal Resource Requirements In order for this implementation to be successful, there are a number of requirements that the company must make sure that they have. One of the ways through which the company would be able to reach out to the highest number of audiences is through making a television advert. However, in order to do this they will have to find the most watched television stations. The advantage of using the most watched television stations is in the fact that this is the only way through which they can make sure that they reach the highest number of viewers possible. There are certain times when many people are viewing their televisions, meaning that this is the most advisable time to air advertisements (Gopinath & Siciliano 2014, p. 122). However, it should be noted that the rates are usually higher for advertisement that are aired during such period. Therefore, the company should be prepared to pay extra money if they want to reach out to the highest number of individuals. They should also consider using radio advertisements. This will mean that they will also be able to reach out to the people who listen to radio stations on a daily basis. What is of utmost importance in this case is making sure that the radio station that has been chosen for this purpose is one that has the highest number of audience. The time chosen should be one that the radio station has the highest number of audiences listening. This would be preferable during the most listened to radio program. The company can decide to use more than one radio station depending on the amount of resources that they plan to spend on the advert. Magazines can also be an effective way through which the company passes the message to the public. Given the nature of the advertisement, it will be of high importance for the company to carefully choose the type of magazine that they use. For instance, it would be advisable for them to use a health magazine to communicate the possible health effects that might arise from smoking e-cigarettes. They could also use parenting magazines to inform parents of the possible problems that they might face if their children start smoking e-cigarettes. It will also be of benefit if they use social magazines to communicate the social effects that might arise from smoking of e-cigarettes. Billboards can also be used to convey the message to the general public. However, the only disadvantage of using billboards is that they are less interactive when compared to advertisement media such a television and radio. However, they can make the process more interactive by availing communication lines through which the general public can use to seek more information. In order to use billboards they will also have to seek the best designers in the market so that the billboard can be as eye catching as possible. When the billboard is eye catching there is a high possibility that more people will read the information on it thus gets the information that they are intended to get or get in touch with the company for more information. Lately the internet has been widely used for advertisement. What makes internet ideal for advertisement is the fact that there has been a general increase in the number of people using the internet. This implies that companies choosing to use the internet have a higher possibility of reaching out to more people. The internet offers many platforms through which companies can advertise. These platforms include social media and websites. However, social media is the most used in the modern society. Given that many people do use social media on a daily basis, it will be very easy for the company to portray the message that they intend on passing to the general public through the social media. one advantage of using social media is the fact that it is more affordable as compared to the other media that are used by organizations to reach out to the general public. This will help the company in avoiding the financial risks that are involved in the other media of advertisement. The company can also consider organizing a roadshow that will be aimed at sensitizing the public on the possible effect that e-cigarettes might have on the health of individuals and the society. In order for this to take place they will have to seek a permit from the local authorities. They will also have to hire some entertainers who will serve the purpose of attracting people before they are able to educate them. Roadshows can be said to be very effective as the public will have a change of asking any questions that they might have regarding e-cigarettes personally. This might be a time consuming option but might be preferred given the nature of the message that the company want to pass on to the public. Roadshows might also prove to be ineffective in areas where people are busy and there are busy and have busy traffic. Busy traffic will interfere with the movement of the vehicle that the company will be using for the roadshow program. Route Map The first step in the whole process will be determining who will be reached by the message. After determining the targeted audience, the company will analyse the available media and decide on the most appropriate. The choice of media will be done on the basis of affordability and a number of potential audience. The company will then seek funding for the whole process. For the external activities the company will decide on which of the available provider is the most effective and appropriate. Specific advertisements will be developed then analysed by the company’s analyst. The analysts will then decide on which of the advertisements presented are the most appropriate. After the implementation, it will be advisable for the company to carry out a research that will be aimed at determining the effectiveness of the campaign in passing on the intended message to the general public. If in any case the analysis will lead to the realization that there are some parts of the campaign that are unsuccessful, then the company will find a way through which they can be eliminated. This will help the company in focusing on the activities that are more effective in passing information to the general public while ignoring those that prove not to be fruitful. The result of such practices is that the business will be able to avoid spending resources on activities that do not contribute to the goal of the project. These activities will also help the company in knowing ways in which they can make the effective activities more fruitful because they will be able to know the aspects that are fruitful and those that are not.
