? A Report of General Motors Company Introduction Organizations need proper systems in order to attain their goals. Additionally, all levels of management within an organization require a well-formulated system. Notably, top management level has the mandate of making sure that all departments within an organization follow laid down rules and regulations. Precisely, developing viable systems requires well-informed and experienced teamwork dedicated to achieve a common goal. This paper sets out to analyze critically the problem, the problem statement, project scope definition, and the system objective of General Motors Company. Finally, this paper gives solutions on the company should overcome its current challenges as discussed below. Problem General Motors Company is an international automobile carmaker, which operates globally. Additionally, this company started its operations more than one hundred years ago. Currently, the company is facing stiff competition from other automobile car dealers all over the world. Notably, workers in all levels of management have demonstrated over the poor terms and conditions of work. Finally, this has resulted to conflicts between the top management level and the employees. As a result the company is recording low sales in most countries of its operations thus low profits attained. As a consultant have met all the stakeholders and thorough feasibility study have been contacted. Additionally, the top management has given me directives and guidelines to come up with a permanent solution to this problem. Problem statement Having analyzed the problem the top management has given me a taskforce which will collaborate in order to develop a new system. Agreeably, the new system will come up with a permanent solution to overcome the above mentioned problem. Notably, the new system will work within some certain budget which must get approval from the top management level. Precisely, all the other stakeholders must seek permission from the top managers to take part in this new initiative. Finally, the teamwork that will work on this project will have different tasks to execute. Project scope definition Notably, this project will take a maximum period of three months of which it must get submitted to the top managers for approval. Additionally, the teamwork is working within certain guidelines provided by the top management level. Agreeably, this guideline relates to financial limits, and the technology that should make the project viable. Notably, this project involves other stakeholders whose work is to analyze the direction of the project as well measuring and submitting reports to the top management level. Additionally, this taskforce will work together within these guidelines which they must not go beyond. Initially, the feasibility study will undergo thorough cross-examination, and the current situation examined. Furthermore, the taskforce will also examine the market research already contacted and come up with new marketing strategies in order to make more sales in most of the affected countries of its operation. Agreeably, this will come true if the company will manufacture modern type of cars, which are affordable, and fuel efficient (Bentley & Whitten, 2007). Precisely, this will reduce stiff competition the company is currently facing hence boosting sales. System objective Evidently, this project will come up with a new system, which is cost effective and favorable to employees to avoid conflicts and financial constraints. Additionally, it will come up with a modern technology, which will monitor its progress with time. Precisely, the new technology will be user friendly to employees and the company in general. Notably, the old system will seize to exist so that it can pave the way for the new system. Additionally, the existing staff in the information technology department will have to attend short courses on how to use this new system. Moreover, the project will show estimates of the budget, and the period it will take for its full implementation take effect. Precisely, this will take only four months to come into use. Notably, this new system will make the company increase sales and target many potential customers around the globe. Furthermore, this will reduce the cost of manufacturing cars hence maximizing profits. Conclusively, the system gathers of people who have done thorough research, and thus it’s hard for it to fail. Precisely, the taskforce will divide itself into groups to analyze the system implementation. Some will gather relevant information from the employees while others will research on the market behavior and the expectations of the consumers. After gathering this information, further measures will be effected and immediate response undertaken. This will involve all the stakeholders developing this new system. Moreover, the system analyst will give directives on how to proceed with the project. Precisely, the taskforce will undertake some statistics to look at the countries in which the company is facing stiff competition. Additionally, they will call a general meeting of all the employees so that they can air their grievances (Bentley & Whitten, 2007). Evidently, this will enable the taskforce to make decisions, which will avoid demonstrations in the near future within the company. Matrix Additionally, the taskforce will analyze the customer’s current needs by proposing to the company to come up with new models of cars. Agreeably, this will reduce competition because the world business of automobiles is going digital. Notably, the profit margins will go up leading to improved performance. Precisely, future demands of the customers will come to the limelight because the task team proposes that the company should update its website after three months. Additionally, the company’s website must also meet the international standards so that it can reach the best performing companies. Notably, this report will also put mechanisms to ensure that the company’s premises have some suggestion boxes, which are currently lacking. Agreeably, this will make employees from all the departments post complains to the higher management level. Demonstrations will therefore be minimized hence employees productivity will increase. Furthermore the above solutions already addressed will be tabled to the top management in the first two weeks so that its progress can get a further step to continue. If the top management does not agree with the project, it will therefore give its recommendations and adjustments. Notably, if the project has gone beyond their budget allocations, they will adjust it. Additionally, if the top management finds that the project or the new system will not work they will give directives to stop. Structure Agreeably, the new systems main aim is to change the existing structure of the company. The new structure will give the company a new beginning and direction towards achieving its goals. Additionally, the taskforce will discuss all the changes, which the top management level has put into place, and update the structure they are currently working on. Notably, the system analyst will help in achieving the directives effected by the top management. Precisely, the steering committee chair meetings to discuss these directives and all the members will contribute exhaustively. Additionally, the taskforce will work following the guidelines in the new directives. Evidently, this will make the taskforce use these guidelines as a reference, which they will file for future use. Consequently, the system analyst will give the taskforce reliable ideas of how the new system will work. Additionally he will state the boundaries of the project to avoid coming up with a system that cannot work in the near future. Moreover, he will also give the taskforce a graphical user interface of how the system should look like. After presentation of the graphical user interface members of the task force will examine the existing system models. Notably, every department in the company is re-visited and data collected according to the current situation. This will give the task force a better chance to know how the existing system has affected growth of the company. Agreeably, after the taskforce gets the feedback, they will undertake another brief analysis of the existing system and investigate how the problem started. This will give them a true revelation of how the new system will look like hence giving the right proposal to the top management level (Bentley & Whitten, 2007). Finally, the system analyst at this stage will employ his skills to ensure that all the necessary parts appear in the system proposal report. Precisely, the system analyst will further go ahead and try the new system to the end users of the new system. If it succeeds he will bring it back to task force for progress. Notably, if the end users of new system reject the new proposal further clarification will be given. Evidently, if employees are not willing to post their grievances to the suggestion boxes they will give an alternative measure on how they want their grievances addressed. Finally, all the challenges which bring this stiff competition come on board in a more distinctive manner. Furthermore, first hand information will give the taskforce a better way to resolve employee’s problems. The cost effectiveness of the new system will show itself since the entire levels of management are involved. Assumptions Notably, the new system will have to undergo some trials before its final implementation. This will enable the system analyst to note any challenges the new system might encounter. Agreeably, all the assumptions are based on practical’s which are bound to work. The existing resources will also have a chance to get upgrading or replacement with modern ones if they do not give the required service. Tangible benefits will mathematically be examined at this stage by evaluating what the old system have been offering to the company. Additionally, future problems which the system might face will also come to the top agenda. Precisely, the system analyst will focus on how this stiff competition is affecting the company and how employee’s demonstrations can end. Notably, he will not assume anything here everything will appear in his report which will appear to the top managers. Evidently, the company will achieve this goal by increasing wages and salaries for both casual and permanent employees. If this is not possible at the moment top management should engage employees into dialogue on how it would pay them on phases. Furthermore, to overcome the problem of stiff competition the company should either pull their businesses out of the countries with stiff competition or improve customer’s service. Evidently, this can only work if customers can get discounts and bonuses. Additionally, it can also come into effect by giving customers after sales service after they buy cars. Finally, the company should also contact thorough market research to ascertain what the other companies are offering. This will improve their marketing since the exact problem relies on first hand information. This project will give the top management an overall view of how the existing system has affected the company’s performance. Notably, assumptions of the existing have affected the performance of the company in many ways. Agreeably, the new system proposes that the company should not rely on manufacturing cars of the same make for long. Precisely, it should have different models of cars after every three months. This will create a new business venture for the company hence widening its market. Evidently, customers make choices according to the products offered in the market. If the market looks diversified, customers will switch to new products in the market and discard the outdated products. The system analyst should have interpersonal skills so that he or she can make timely decisions.. As a consultant who is in this project my assumption is that, the top management level will accept our proposal and the new system will come into use. Precisely, am also assuming that the financial estimates will get approvals and the new system will take its course. The company should therefore follow the above procedures in order to achieve positive results. Additionally, all the stakeholders in the development of the new system should work towards achieving a common goal. The project will succeed if the teamwork is dedicated and have common interest (Bentley & Whitten, 2007. Precisely, the company should therefore embrace change and start manufacturing new models of cars after every three months. Notably, this depicts that wide market coverage will increase sales thus improving company’s annual sales. My last assumption is that new models of cars will attract more customers around globe thus improving the company’s current annual income. As a consultant, the project will act as a guideline on how to replace the old system with the new system. Furthermore, the guidelines will appear in the first page of the project manual or handbook. This will give the chief executive officer a chance to know steps followed even before he reads the contents of the book. Evidently, the manual or the handbook will have a well-drawn charts and graphs showing different levels of management.
