Weekly Blogs and Portfolio Weekly Blogs and Portfolio Use of web 2.0 by individuals and organizations Reflection- Portfolio Criteria Comments Grade Professionalism: Professional use of Social Technology to enhance personal branding and credibility I learned that social technology could enhance personal branding and credibility. This involves the creation of blogs and linking them to social sites like Facebook and Twitter. I managed to create and publish various blogs. I learnt that blogs should be professional in nature and address the interests of the target audience. My blogs addressed various interests. High quality, relevant, and current posts promotes blogs and social sites. I was able to update my blogs with current information though sometimes I missed trending topics. The posts should adopt a conversation tone and address all aspects relevant to the target audience. My blogs allowed the readers to comment and add value to the posts. Blogs should manifest professionalism by using clear and grammatically correct language to introduce and promote blog posts. The posts should follow chronological order and depict subheadings that enhance readership and understanding of the blog posts. Moreover, I learnt that there is need to do enough research and use relevant resources in writing a blog post. I was not able to include detailed research on various posts that I posted. Linking blogs to social media enhances the quality and effectiveness of a blog post. Indeed, my blog post had a link to various social sites although it had low readership. I learnt that blogs should contribute to various tasks in a timely and detailed manner. 7/10 Strategy: The ability to appraise Social Technology strategies and solutions for organisational and personal success I learnt that appraising social technology strategies and solutions leads to organisational and personal success. This requires excellent knowledge on the impacts and affordances, and issues of social technology applications to enhance effectiveness of organizations and individuals. I adopted social technology in creating blogs and social media to promote personal success of my readers. I also learnt that blogging requires excellent critical thinking that involves analyzing available data to make a hypothetical conclusion. Indeed, I carried out subtle research on my posts to ensure that they presented correct, current, and detailed information to my audience. A good blog should allow the audience and experts to make their contribution through comments. My blogs adopted a conversation tone that allowed readers and experts to contribute to my blog posts. Most assuredly, authors of blogs should be very credible. However, I cannot ascertain my credibility in addressing various topics that I posted on my blogs. 8/10 Impact: Ability to engage successfully with the wider community (including people outside of) using blogging and other Social Technologies I learnt that blogging and other social technologies could enable individuals and organizations to engage successfully with the wider community. I designed my blogs with an aim of fostering global engagement for my readers. My blogs had an interesting and global outlook that enhanced interactions with the wider community. I learnt the need to use experimented and wide range social technologies to promote communication and collaboration with people across the globe. My blogs addressed various topics and relied on popular social technologies like social media to draw global interactions. Blog posts that offer constructive and fundamental assistance to the audience and other blogs attract huge readership. I designed and published blogs with high quality information and commented on other blogs. This allowed me to establish relationships with other bloggers, which helped in improving readership on my blog posts. As such, my posts provided significant contribution to the wider community by addressing relevant topics. 8/10 Portfolio Total Mark 23/30 Activity 1 My blog seeks to express my views through a meaningful statement that will educate my readers on the topic about blogging and blogging strategies. More, so my blog seeks to provoke discussion from professionals about blogging and blogging strategies. In ensuring that I create and present an effective, detailed, and attractive blog post, I will adopt significant blogging strategies. I will develop an effective plan that will explain what I need to say and when I should say it to create a good blog post. I will then carryout a detailed research on the reference topic and blogging to answer all questions that the readers might have. This will involve considering expert contribution in forming a relevant statement. I will consider something interesting and invite the audience to the amazement. I will introduce my statement in a conversation and question format that will introduce a new concept, which will encourage relevant comments on my blogging platform .The introduction will be in smaller paragraphs to enhance readability. I will invite professional contributions on my statement, include facts, and link the blog post to social sites. To promote my blog post, I will gather and publish detailed, diverse, exclusive, and popular information on daily basis. My posts will be entertaining, personal, credible, convincing, and informing. To obtain readership, I will seek to write a blog to a target audience that we share some common interests. I will also publish information on trending topics that relate to major events that are relevant to my target readers (Clark, 2013). Establishing a good group of blogging friends will help in gathering and posting information regularly. I will write the blogs using a conversational tone to encourage reader’s response. Using headlines for regular posts will improve readership, of my blogs. I will also adopt an RSS feed to ensure that readers get current posts directly. I will establish links and partnerships with social sites and other blogs to distribute my latest content and solicit a greater audience (Clark, 2013). Sharing the most interesting content and commenting on other blogs fosters readership. Moreover, I will establish a quick response mechanism to the readers’ queries and views. Notably, Coca-Cola Conversations and Starbucks are some examples of excellent blogs that exist in the modern world. Indeed, the Coca-Cola Conversations blog is effective since it relates company’s products to current events thus promoting marketing and sales (The Coca-Cola Company, 2014). The blog has a detailed description in the right sidebar and links to the social sites through the social media icons on its platform. The blog had a huge readership of about one million people by July 2014 (The Coca-Cola Company, 2014). On the other hand, Starbucks blog is equally effective because it focuses and promotes the entire coffee drinking culture thus marketing Starbucks products (Schultz, 2013). The blog fosters communication in Starbucks Corporation since it allows all stakeholders of the company to share their views (Schultz, 2013). The blog has a high degree of engagement with readers liking and responding to most comments and shares. The blog relates to the community needs and interests. Activity 2: We can refer to Enterprise 2.0 as self-organizing social software platforms applied between companies and their customers to achieve enterprise objectives (Mcafee, 2006). The application of Enterprise 2.0 has led to the emergence of unplanned structures in course of time, which have generated huge benefits for companies and individuals. As such, the adoption of Enterprise 2.0 platforms is on the increase. Notably, IBM, MWW Group, XM Radio, Bridgespan Group, Novell, and Oracle are examples of companies using social tools like Enterprise 2.0 platforms to achieve enterprise objectives (Wildermuth, 2014). These companies relate to E2.0 principles. Bridgespan Group relates to the principle of reputation. Bridgespan Group is a nonprofit management and recruiting Service Company. Bridgespan Group has adopted Enterprise 2.0 where it established a blog that has fostered recruitment and interrelations between customers and the company management through videos, posts, and comments (Wildermuth, 2014). On the other hand, Oracle has adopted Enterprise 2.0 thus relating to the principle of staff engagement or collective effort, which allows stakeholders to share ideas across the company. This fosters adoption of 2.0 concepts in the company (Wildermuth, 2014). MWW Group adopts Enterprise 2.0 that relates to transparency and productivity. MWW Group has adopted a wiki that fosters communication on projects (Wildermuth, 2014). The Enterprise 2.0 platform integrates new media services that enhance efficiency, productivity, and communication. On the other hand, IBM has invested in Enterprise 2.0 platform to improve efficiency and transparency over traditional search (Wildermuth, 2014). This has enabled company employees to save time while searching leading to huge financial savings. These companies relate Wikinomics business models. Indeed, XM Radio relates to peering model that fosters value creation and mass collaboration in adopting Enterprise 2.0. This company adopted Enterprise 2.0 platform by transferring desktop functions to a collaborative application that allows the stakeholders to share information collaboratively (Wildermuth, 2014). Moreover, Novell relates to ideagoras model that allows companies to participate in the global market. Novell uses wikis in various company operations, projects, and conversations, which allows the company to establish global collaboration (Wildermuth, 2014). Activity 3 There are major benefits and value levers associated with implementing Enterprise 2.0. For example, the implementation of Enterprise 2.0 enhances the reputation of a company. Coca Cola Company implements Enterprise 2.0 through the Coca-Cola fan page. This enhances the reputation of the company by allowing Coca Cola fans to create and maintain content, which presents Coca Cola as an attractive company. Moreover, the Coca-Cola fan page manifests how the company adopts new web technologies, which improve the company’s reputation. The fan page equally increases the company’s visibility in the market. Through the fan page, the company can establish and address various customer needs. The implementation of Enterprise 2.0 relates to specific functional areas. Indeed, the implementation of Enterprise 2.0 through the Coca-Cola fan page enhances product development and customer service across the enterprise. Indeed, through the Coca-Cola fan page, the consumers help in product development by giving their views and comments on various company brands. The company can draw the consumer’s response to various products by following their views and comments on the fan page. This will help the company to develop products that address consumer’s needs in diverse locations. The Coca-Cola fan page is a significant medium that fosters customer service in the company (The Coca Cola Company, 2014). The fan page allows the consumers to air their grievances and views on various Coca-Cola brands. Moreover, the company can access customer response and feedback on the fan page. By addressing these views and comments, Coca-Cola fosters customer service. The Coca Cola Company is the worlds largest beverage company with more than 500 sparkling and still brands (The Coca Cola Company, 2014). The company is one of the greatest private employers with more than 700,000 employees across the globe (The Coca Cola Company, 2014). The company has huge global presence where it operates and serves diverse customers in more than 200 countries (The Coca Cola Company, 2014). By serving more than 1.9 billion people daily, Coca-Cola derives huge market impact (The Coca Cola Company, 2014). The company draws its success from adopting Enterprise 2.0 through the Coca-Cola fan page and other related blogs like the Coca-Cola Conversations blog. Some of the value levers may apply or apply in the company. The company leverages forecast and monitors demand through the Coca-Cola fan page since it provides relevant information on customer needs (McKinsey Global Institute, 2012). This fosters efficiency in the provision of products by monitoring customer conversations. Moreover, the company derives customer insights (McKinsey Global Institute, 2012) by accessing consumer’s opinions and response to various brands in the market as seen in the Coca-Cola fan page. By accessing and addressing customer insights, the Coca-Cola fan page offers customer care using social media, which helps customers. The Coca-Cola fan page derives an efficient way of distributing the company’s messages at reduced costs. Activity 4: Wells Fargo is a professional service organization that offers banking, insurance, investments, mortgage, and consumer and commercial finance services to more than 9,000 stores across the globe (Wells Fargo, 2014). Wells Fargo enables its 120,000 employees to access wikis, blogs, and social profiles to enhance its business (Wildermuth, 2014). This allows the employees to participate in making company decisions. The adoption of blogs and social media enhances marketing in the company (Wells Fargo, 2014). Indeed, the blogs and social media present relevant company information to consumers, which allow them to comment and share such information. The company enables conversations between customers and the management through blogs and social media, which promotes customer engagement and loyalty to the company. Wells Fargo relates to the relevant value levers by implementing Enterprise 2.0. Indeed, by using blogs and social media, Wells Fargo derives customer insights by following their opinion and response to company products (McKinsey Global Institute, 2012). Moreover, through the social media, the company monitors customer conversations and views on various products thus enhancing customer care. Indeed, customers can help their colleagues via the Facebook and Twitter accounts adopted by Wells Fargo (Wells Fargo, 2014). The blogs and social media help the company to participate in global interactions and collaboration (Wells Fargo, 2014). Blog Post AOL, JOIN NOW! Established in 1985, AOL is an American multinational mass media company that offers online services to diverse subscribers. Headquartered in New York, AOL has more than 5,600 and a membership of about 126 million people across the globe. Joining AOL will allow subscribers to receive up-to-date world news, sports news, weather news, stock market news, TV trends, and movie reviews. AOL has a capacity to serve more than 2.4 million subscribers in one convenient and personalized dashboard. The subscribers will also access free AOL products.
