RobotsMemorandumThe following memo is about robots and their impact on technology and communication as well as economic growth. Robots are used in numerous fields such as in the automobile industry where they are used in welding and lifting cars. Apart from assembly operation, robots are used in spray painting, in the military, space exploration, transportation and medical application although they were designed to perform some boring tasks. Currently, robots are largely used to perform labor tasks.

The need to increase production and improve on efficiency is very necessary and finding the best robot for this is very important. I major in Mechanical Engineering which is directly related to the construction of the robots. The first article, “Team Designs Tiny Robots That Can Build like Termites” gives a significant design of tiny robots that can build without outside intervention. The second article, “Believable Robot Characters” gives an account on how important are the believability of robots when it comes to human-robot interaction.

Team Designs Tiny Robots That Can Build Like TermitesThe article was published by Dow Jones & Company Inc. in New York, United States and authored by Robert Lee Hotz. The organization of the article only provides a heading and several paragraphs describing what the author wants to pass. It also has an abstract that summarizes what the information contained in it (Robert, 2014). The article is written in simple a U.S English language and is directed to the audience at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Chicago.

It focuses on the ability of the robots to help in building any structure that they are instructed to.Believable Robot CharactersThe article was published by Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, La Canada in United States and authored by Simmons et al. The organization of the article provides headings and subheadings dividing every point communicated by the authors. There is also a subtract summarizing the content and objective of the article. The article is directed towards people in the entertainment industry who are greatly interested in the human-robot interaction through the integration of consistent story line, verbal and nonverbal behavior and social context.

It is also written in a simple and understandable language (Simmons, 2011). ComparisonBoth the articles are written in simple language and address the design of robots that may make work easier for humans. Both the articles are use technical terms that can only be understood by the professionals or engineering students. It is apparent that both articles address the significance of robots. In contrast “Team Designs Tiny Robots that Build like Termites” addresses the design of robots for research purposes while “Believable Robot Character” is concerned with human-robot interaction for academic purposes.

ConclusionBoth articles have used simple and common language that can be easily understood by their readers even the ones who do not fully understand the concept of robots. The sources are very useful in further research because they authored by professionals and may also be used for a beginner or any other ordinary person in understanding the functions and the concept of robots.ReferencesRobert, L. H. (2014, Feb 13). Team designs tiny robots that can build like termites. Wall Street Journal (Online).

Analysis of The Role of The Left Somatosensory Cortex In Human Hand Movement Article by Okuda

It is strongly recommended in this study to use a combination of two-level CPG model and unit burst generator (UBG) to investigate the neural mechanism forming the bedrock of locomotion control.... Illustrating how the transfer of information to the motor cortex does not occur in a symmetric fashion, this research provides an insightful analysis of the complex mechanisms underlying human hand movements.... He attempts to explain how central pattern generators (CPGs) when used as neural networks can be used in robotics to direct the locomotion of robots....

Robots in Ophthalmology

dvanced robotic products such as surgical robots are now common in operating rooms of large medical centres, and it is recognized as a dynamic surgical tool for enhancing human surgeon's dexterity in less invasive surgical procedures Although their high cost prohibits general use, initial applications of these robots considerably prove their clinical benefits and surgical potential.... In general, intelligent surgical robots main advantages are its ability to register medical images accurately, to move consistently without exhaustion and tremor, work in a hazardous environments unsuitable to human surgeons, and their ability to reposition instruments swiftly and precisely through complicated trajectories or on top of numerous targets....

The Myths of Negotiating Dark Networks

They reject the “prevailing pessimism about the ability of states to combat illicit networks” as premature (2008: 8) and argue that a closer inspection of the idea of “networks” is required to understand their true implications.... Illicit networks are primarily of the first two variants and many, if not most, suffer from “inefficiencies and short life-cycles” (2008: 17).... two important implications arise here: hierarchy remains important in illicit organizations, without which they do not retain potency over the long-term; and, a network structure in illicit groups may reduce threats emanating from them and a closer scrutiny of networks may help states devise counteractive strategies....

Robot Technology and how it is used in emergency management / emergency response

According to the… The advantage of having robots to do tasks is that they can work in environments where humans or animals cannot work due to the hazardous conditions.... Several procedures such as laparoscopic operations are done through keyhole openings by robots.... In general robotic technology has several advantages compared to using human beings to work in the same field, owing to the design, process of manufacture, environment the robots works in and the application/use of the robots....
