Extract of sample "Cathedral Written by Raymond Carver"

Cathedral, written by Raymond Carver is a story with a number of deep hidden meanings and symbols. According to the narrator, the act of looking is related to physical vision; however, seeing requires a very deep level of engagement with another person. The narrator is not happy with the blind man’s decision to stay in the house because of the level of connection that the two have; the blind man, without seeing his wife, is able to make her express and feel emotions that the narrator is not able to and that makes him uncomfortable.

The narrator, his wife, and Robert are able to derive an insight into their lives with the help of meaningful art and poetry; his wife writes poems to mark important events that take place and touch her life throughout the course of the year, one of the vital ones being the time when she met the blind man and he touched her face.
