Book review on “Game Change” by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann The book Game change: Obama and Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the race of a lifetime has been written by two authors who include Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. Mark Halperin was born in January 11, 1965 at Bethsaida, Maryland in the United States. He studied at the Harvard University, and he is currently the senior political analyst for the time magazine and also he is a board member in the New Hampshire institute of politics at saint Anselm College. John Heilemann was also born on January 23, 1966 at Los Angeles, California in United States. He also studied at Harvard University and currently he is a journalist New York magazine and mainly covers US politics. He is also involved in other writings of other books about presidential campaigns. The book Game change Obama and Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the race of a lifetime was written in the year 2010 after Barrack Obama had already won the presidential seat of the United States of America. This means that it is obviously a review of something, which has already happened, so it shows that the book describes past events, which have already occurred. Following the date of publication and the year the events being discussed happened then it is evident that the authors have something to reveal about the two thousand and eights United States of Americas elections. It is definite that the authors have carried out research on the elections and the people who were competing for the general elections. The book talks about the history of the presidential campaigners in the year two thousand and eight in the United States of America. It talks about Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton, McCain and Palin. It gives a brief view on how the United States presidential candidates expected they would win in the election. It shows how Obama went out to play basketball as a way of avoiding the idea of politics as he was waiting for the results (Heilemann and Halperin 193). The book also explains how Barrack Obama was a senator and nominated as the Democratic candidate for the United States senate. Hillary was also a senator in the United States, and though Obama had been nominated as the democratic candidate she also admired how Barack Obama had the ability to connect people and bring them together to common interests. Hillary was also interested in becoming the president of the United States also but due to Obama’s advance she felt that Obama would be a challenge to her but she never gave up. John Edwards was the third presidential candidate and after Obama had been given the honor to deliver a speech in 2004 democratic convention most of the citizens of the United States were moved by his speech from that point he was confident to compete effectively for the presidential seat (Heilemann and Halperin 344). After the election, there was a game change by, and some of the game changers were John Mc and Sarah Palin. After Obama had won they decided that they will vet for Palin to rest the contest since she is a woman, she would successfully take Obamas votes, but their plans bore no fruits although she was chosen as the vice president. The authors of the book want to show how someone should be confident with himself or herself because he shows how Obama was confident in winning the election despite the stiff competition he was facing from the other candidates ( Heilemann and Halperin 11). The authors also want to show how the game can be changed for a specific candidate to win the politics. From the book, we can see that John McCain and Sarah Palin had a plan to reverse the contest after Obama had won, but they did not win either. In connection to this, it shows that the candidates should be keen to make sure than their votes have not been wasted or stolen by other competitors. The authors also wanted to show there are game changers for instance for the Obama team organizing the Clinton team in the lowa; the selection of Palin; the catic Couric interviews and many others show there were many game changers in the campaigns and even after elections hence the name of the book Game changer. The authors of the book successfully pass their message, and they have achieved their goal. This is because they have taught the public on how politics and campaigns can be a very dirty game and most likely it would have happened for Obama. The authors also achieve their goal through passing the message of never giving up. We see how Obama overcame the challenge through remaining focused to the goal till the end when he won. Also for Hillary remained persistent till the end though she was not happy with the results of the election. Obama also displays his love and care for Hillary for giving her the seat of the secretary of the state. The authors teach the readers on the fact that, in politics, there is always a game changer. The authors present this message in a very objective manner that they use a real perspective to present the message to the readers. The authors use very clear presentations though they preside over the message in a symbolic manner such that if one is not a careful reader he/she would just think it is a historical book displaying the history of the United States general election. The authors arguments are also very precise in the book, and they are to the point. The book is also made in a story like formation in that it gives its information in a story form hence one has to be keen to get the message because it is deeply implanted in the book. The book is also easy to read, and it is written in a story form hence it is very attractive, and the ideas are appealing to the mind.
