On a surface level of this story a person can extract the theme, that it is the fight between good and the evil, through which protagonist had to gone through. The short story is told by a limited omniscient narrator, in which only Goodman Brown was the central part of the story. The author started the story with a very meaningful line which illustrates the background of the story. The Author states: “Young Goodman Brown came forth at sunset” (3).

This clarify that this is a nighttime tale. This is where it grabbed my attention, and I started liking it the moment it begins. The setting of the story is Salem Village, where Goodman Brown came to his wife Faith, to say goodbye before he leaves for errand. Although Faith was scared and didn’t want to let her husband go alone at the nighttime. She asked him to leave in the sunrise. Being a reader, I assumed that Faith and even Goodman Brown were already aware of the situation and the circumstances that they are going though due to the nighttime travel.

Goodman Brown leaves with the instruction to his wife, as author states: “Dear Faith, and go to bed at dusk, and no harm will come to thee” (3), so which stated that Goodman Brown was already aware of the nightmare and Faith too, somewhat.

Goodman Brown leaves and never discussed his purpose for the journey, but as a reader I realized that brown was heading towards something unpleasing and full of mystery. While he was in the forest, he meets the devil which led him to the bad nightmare and He ended up not having faith on anyone in the town, including his wife and started living his life with despair and ended up being disconnected with everyone in the town. I couldn’t be able to understand if a person was watching his wife in the possession of devil while he was sleeping, how come he would have consider it in real life and break up with his wife.

Young Goodman Brown is an epic piece of writing which left a moral lesson in our life. As a reader, I have extracted a point that people should have trust in their relationships and never assume anything until it appears in our real life. While he was walking towards the ceremony, he assumed that his wife was in the hands of evil with a fluttering pink ribbon in the air, as the author states: “But something fluttered lightly down through the air and caught on the branch of a tree. The young man seized it, and beheld a pink ribbon,” “My Faith is gone!

” (9). Presumably, Mr. Brown was so scared of the situation around him, that it led him to start thinking negatively. This can illustrate so many things, that either his wife is in evil’s control or she was left alone in the town. At this point the story became very interesting. Authors focused on many subjects in the story, but one particular subject is the journey of Young Goodman Brown, which was full of mysteries. He focused on the errand of Young Goodman Brown towards the ceremony which changed his life.

There are some good and bad aspects of the ceremony, the bad parts are when he lost his trust in his wife and on the town’s people.                                                                                                                                          Author describe this story as third man narrator, focusing on the life event of Young Goodman Brown.

It is a tale of good and evil at their most extreme. It is also a life of an individual fighting between good and evil for the existing of its own life.  Lately many early writers used to write their short stories intended to convey the message in order to bring people towards religion and emphasize the point to live their life in God’s way not in their own way. Young Goodman Brown is one kind of story, in which author tried to show a relationship between a newly married couple, and how a little event ruined the relationship between husband and wife.

This story also gives me a lesson of having a faith/trust in loved ones, and don’t let them go far away from you when they need you the most in their life. As the story proceeded, I thought the ending of the story would be in a good shape, and Goodman Brown will eventually find his love in his wife. But the dramatic climax had left me speechless when it totally changed my prediction and showed the reverse version of what I was assuming. However, Goodman Brown found his way to escape from the ceremony and saved his life but couldn’t find his love the way he wanted.

He simply lost his trust in everyone in the town. This isn’t exactly what I thought about the story. It has so many turns that a reader wouldn’t ever get to the conclusion till the last line of the story. The author tried to indulge his readers into the story, as if he had his audience’s image in his mind while writing the short story. To me author is a complete writer, who knows how to get people’s attention towards his story. Young Goodman Brown is a very interesting and exquisite story which gives us a moral lesson of having trust on the beloved ones and always keep yourself by their sides.

This story also gives us the image of love, respect and trust. The image that author is trying to show us is to explore your inside and express your internal feelings about your past. The author is a very articulate person who described each and every portion of the story in a very meaningful way. There was no point in the story where I felt lost or had any sort of difficulty to understand the story.
