Discussion Questions How does "Blooms Taxonomy" relate to Critical Thinking? How can "Blooms Taxonomy" help you to understand expectations? Bloom’s Taxonomy is a nomenclature for categorizing the level of thought-process of inquiries or questions that is occurring in a normal classroom or educational setting. One the other hand, Critical Thinking can be described as "the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generalized by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or communication, as a guide to belief or action [or argument]" (Scriven & Paul, 2001, p.1). Hence, Blooms taxonomy is related to critical thinking because it infuses the level of thinking of a certain person one how he/she answers the question.

Since educational instructors are aware of this level of structure, they often use this in their art of questioning. Hence, Bloom’s Taxonomy can help me understand my instructor’s expectation since I could already categorize his/her questions depending on its level in Bloom’s Taxonomy.2. Why is Critical Thinking important in education and beyond in your life?  Critical Thinking is the ability of the person to use facts and observation about his surroundings as he evaluates the situation to form his judgment on what to do and believe.

It is the capacity to think critically and objectively rather than subjectively. Through critical thinking, a person could compartmentalize his emotions and evaluate, analyze, and synthesize the pros and cons of a certain issue then decide whether to accept, augment, or reject a certain proposition through his sound and analytical judgment.Critical thinking is important in my education and beyond because real education is not about memorization and simple recall. Real education is about teaching a person how to become a metacognitive person.

A metacognitive person has the ability to think about thinking and learn about learning. True education is not confined in the four walls of the classroom. Rather, true education should dwell in teaching students how to fish rather than giving them fish. As a person who strives to achieve my full potential, it is important for me to develop higher level thinking skills as I evaluate each event or situation that is presented to me in order to decide what to believe and what not to believe, what to accept and what to reject.

In the end, what really matters is not about how well I memorized each facts or figures, rather, what really matter is how I used those things to think and decide. Education for life-long learning is what really counts!
