In the advent of learning the comical journey by Mark Twain of Huck Finn and his ally, who is in the wind as a slave. Children understand more than just the true meaning of a slave, culture, friendship, and morals. The use of Mark Twain’s historical book of Huck Finn remains banned in different schools. The reason for the ban was due to the blatant use of racial slurs for a slave and advanced subjects, which might bear a negative impact on the children. Should Huck Finn be taught in schools?

A percentage of protesters exist that feel that Huck Finn is not suitable to be taught in high school. The major argument has been that the story is just offensive to the African Americans; it is also uncomfortable for both the parents and teachers in the institution. Most teachers find it difficult to teach the topic without offending people with black ethnicity in the process. However, other people feel the story needs to be taught to students to give the learners a sense of history, which is essential to their lives.

Most individuals believe that the students get to understand the feeling of being discriminated against. African Americans stand as the only ethnicity that stands offended by the story. Some people believe that Huck bears racist commentary and educates a generation that did not come in contact with a slave. However, the main point of argument from the African Americans against Huck Finn and Jim is the blatant disrespect through the use of the ‘n’ word within the book. I feel that Huck should be taught in high school.

The book makes of the ‘n’ word on many occasions against African Americans, which is a racial slur which is just insightful and offensive to people. However, a trip down memory lane shows that it presents a different case in point. The point is that it shows the representation of the people back then, such as Jim. Twain wrote using the words since, at the time, it was a common term, and Twain did not know that times would change, and in their future, this would be a racial slur. However, it paints a picture of the experiences of other people.

Huck teaches about depths of friendship and essential lessons that marked the bond between Huck and Jim despite the racial incitements within the book. Jim faces a dilemma during their adventures, which changes his view of Jim. However, the view of Jim by Huck extends beyond the color of his skin but as a human being with emotions. “Huck Finn and Jim” is more than an adventure book; it encourages and presents a more profound meaning beyond comic relief.
