Thus, the art and science of leadership is concerned with the attainment of people’s willingness without the use of coercion, brutal force, and torture. True leaders are believed to be the masters of winning people’s hearts and consequently their follow-ship in a gentle way to say the least. However, there are leaders that prove to be ineffective, and then there are those who are effective to such an extent that they become an integral part of leadership’s literature. Yet, it is imperative to note that governmental officials have leadership positions, but their ability to benefit society with the help of just and honest means will decipher their effectiveness as a leader.

The whole and sole point underlying leadership is the will and ability to make a certain society a better place to live, and if somebody is not fulfilling the requirement of societal benefit (Parry & Proctor-Thomson, 2003) despite his or her apparent leading position then he or she is not a leader at all. Moreover, these kinds of leaders have their days numbered and are known to be dissolving into the general public after the change in government while the effective leaders without the so-called governmental power manage to make their name in the pages of history books.

Finally, the will and power to do the right thing differentiate fake and real leaders. The skill of leadership is famous for emanating from personal competencies of a particular person, for instance, Kennedy was famous for his strength of public speaking through that he practiced the art of influence whereas many writers such as Socrates changed the world of education as he promoted Socratic teaching that is considered as a fundamental principle of teaching in the era of the 21st century. The basic purpose of this paper is to discriminate between Cesar Chavez and Bob Filner who are believed to be effective and ineffective leaders respectively that left a mark on the historical outlook of leadership.

Cesar Chavez: an Example of an Effective Leader Cesar Chavez was a man who raised his voice for the noble cause of protecting basic human rights of his Latino community. The featured individual did so by becoming a leader of Farm Workers Union. The whole idea behind the social moment was to eliminate social and economic discrimination so that the process of exploitation could be stopped. The man came into this world on March, 31, 1927, and later during his youth he conceptualized and operated the National Farm Workers Association which at the later stages became the United Farm Workers Union.

All of Cesar’s accomplishments came in his early and mid-youth. The moment led by the leader proved to be non-violent in the long run, and therefore it was supported by American Labor Movement. The support of Labor Movement contributed significantly towards promoting Cesar’s Union on a national and worldwide basis (Chavez, 1966). The civilized manner of protesting and putting forth the demands helped the union with transforming into a representative of more than 50,000 field labors who were working in the localities of California and Florida (Chavez, 1966).

Ten years later the number of members reduced to 15,000 as the government announced friendly and supportive labor policies for the Latino community. Finally, Cesar died on April, 23, 1993 at the age of 66, and his birthday is celebrated as a public holiday in the regions of California, Colorado, and Taxes. The success of Cesar as a leader is caused by his willingness to do the right thing as he raised voice for his people. The abovementioned noble act will keep his name alive in the literature of leadership for the foreseeable future. Thus,
