Conflict and stress in managementIntroductionConflict and stress are two issues that can negatively affect the performance of an organization. Conflict occurs when two employees cannot agree on an issue (Collins & O'Rourke, 2009). This paper is a case study that involves two employees who cannot agree with each other on a production scheduling functions.CaseRalph is said to be proud since he has always handled the production scheduling in his head. However, the plant manager is looking to save on cost and increase on the production efficiency.

Kevin has a system that meets the manager’s needs. Ralph does not like the system since he wants to continue handling the scheduling as he has always done. He is at fault since he has refused to accept change in the organization. The issue in this case is that Ralph is not willing to accept change. He has been joined by other old workers who might feel that their positions are threatened by the changes being introduced. The best way to resolve this situation is to get Ralph to accept change.

This can be achieved through effective communication. He should be sensitized about the need for such change. A compromising approach can be effective (Collins & O'Rourke, 2009). Ralph can be trained on how to use the computer systems. Both Kevin and Ralph can then be working together on the production scheduling so that each one of them is partially satisfied.ConclusionConflict and stress cause poor performance in the organization. Therefore, managers should handle conflicts in the best way so as to avoid stress.

In this case, compromising approach can be effective.ReferencesCollins, S. D., & O'Rourke, J. S. (2009). Managing conflict and workplace relationships. Mason, OH: South-Western Cengage Learning.
