Operation Management Introduction Operational management is an approach utilised by the business to design, oversee and control production processes. The management of the business performs the fundamental task of redesigning the business operations to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the business. This mainly involves; ensuring there is minimal wastage of the resources as well as meeting the requirements of the business customers. The management of the processes involves the utilisation of different tools aimed at achieving the fundamental functions of operation management (Dale, Wiele, & Iwaarden, 2013). The tools include the following; Six-Sigma This approach is aimed at eliminating defects through minimising the number of errors that a products or service has. I shall be extensively utilising this tool within my job to perform assessment of the processes involved in my daily work activities in order to detect areas which have weaknesses and make essential corrections for improvement of the outcomes. Observations of the business processes within the various jobs which I undertake will be key to the effective application of this tool in enhancing my performance while working for the various companies and running my own business as well. The application of this tool within the various working stations will enhance my analytical skills as the utilisation of this tool requires analysis of statistics which are related to the business process. Evaluation of the processes will be based on the targets which I shall have set at the beginning of the business processes which will include the desired profits and other financial targets as well. Process Flow Chart This tool seeks to assess the various processes which are used within the business environment in order to determine the kind of improvements which can be undertaken. This tool will be critical in assessment of the activities which are involved in the different jobs which I will be undertaking. Assessment of the activities will ensure that I understand the job in detail in order to be able to improve my performance on every job that I shall undertake. Within the management positions which I will hold, this tool will be critical to the understanding of the operations in order to enhance the performance of the firms which I shall be working for, I relation to the kind of work I shall be doing. By understanding the job requirements from the process flow chart, I shall be able to manage the operations better as they will be clear to me. Ishikawa Diagram This is one of the most effective tools that can be utilised in the business process improvement as it makes assessment of the cause effect. This tool will be increasingly essential when is hall be operating my own business as the overall authority of the business operation will need to be assessed when problems occur. The tool remains highly effective in determining problems and their causes and ensures improvement to the process occurs as the operations continue. This toll will enable me to understand the various causes of problems within my personal business and also assist in the development of effective remedies. I shall greatly utilise this tool in the identification of potential causes of problems while operating my own business and within the working environment too. The tool provides numerous solutions to problems which one faces and lacks an immediate understanding of what could be causing the problems identified by the Ishikawa diagram. The main problem which this tool will present will be the implementation of the various solutions which the tool will develop. Control Chart The various functions which I will be undertaking during employment and while running my business will require the control of different parameters in seeking to ensure that there is efficiency in the utilisation of available resources. . The control chart is mainly utilised in making observations of the business process in relation to anticipated functional outputs of the process. This tool will also make use of the statistical information available from the six sigma approach in controlling the parameters of the business. This toll will enable me to monitor the operations in seeking to ensure they remain within the limits which have been established in order to maintain a standard level of operation. The toll will provide analytical information of business processes for the implementation of control measures to enhance the effectiveness of the business processes. Run Chart Like the control charts, I will also utilise this simple chart in monitoring the business process over a long period of time. The utilisation of this tool will be critical to making decisions regarding improvement of the overall processes involved in the business. This toll will be simpler and easier to utilise because the application will rely on observations as opposed to statistical information necessary in control charts. The simplicity in application will be the fundamental reason for the increased utilisation of this tool in the decision making process. The chart will enable changes to be implemented based on an observation conducted over a long period of time to determine the trend of various operational elements of the business sand the work environment. Gantt chart This tool is not only useful for the management of business processes but is also applicable in the career planning as it will enable me to develop a timeline for performing various activities. I will be increasing utilising this tool in the management of the various activities which I need to undertake based on the plan which has been developed. The tool will be critical to evaluating the utilisation of time in accordance to the plan which has been developed. It will also be a basis upon which evaluation can be conducted to assess, the adherence to the timeline in both career development and the business processes as well. This is because the Gantt chart will have a list of activities which will be required to the performed as different stages. References Dale, B. G., Wiele, T. Van Der, & Iwaarden, J. Van. (2013).
