Organizational behavior Both scientific and informal researches have various similarities and differences. Scientific study is controlled and objective using a systematic methodology of gathering data (John, Robert, & Michael, 2014). The researcher defines what is to be included in the study and what is not to be included. Assessing and gathering data follows some prescribed rules which are regularly reviewed for any errors. The informal research methods are subjective and uncontrolled. The validity of data in informal methods is assumed with an inductively interpreted reasoning. An informal research activity could be done using a formal scientific approach by following a controlled and objective approach where the researcher has to follow prescribed rules which are regularly reviewed for errors (Arch & Elizabeth, 2009). The aspect of organizational behavior that I would study is motivation. This involves inspiring and stimulating the employees to accomplish the desired goals of the organization. The reason I would study is because motivation of employees is important in ensuring the success of the organization. In addition, behaviorism psychology is concerned with an observable behavior as opposed to other internal events that include thinking. Due to this, observable behavior is easily measured scientifically. Each behavior is as a result of a stimulus and it is learnt form an environment of an individual (John, Robert, & Michael, 2014). Organizational psychology is concerned with the study of the human behaviors especially in the work places and applies both psychological theories and the organizational principles. This psychology enhances the success of an organization by heightening the level of organizational performance. This behavior is learned and is easily measured. The difference between organization and behaviorism psychology is that organizational psychology applies only in an organization (Nigel, David, Nikala, & Douglas, 2006). Case study summary In Texas, the people still enjoy a good taste of barbeque and it is evident from a wide variety of stalls displaying different varieties of barbeque. In this aspect, there is one famous world famous barbeque called Drexler’s which is located in Houston’s third ward area. The business has been a family business for the longest time one can remember. The history of the restaurant began in the late 1940s when the uncle to the current owners operated as the Burney’s BBQ (John, Robert, & Michael, 2014). His death in 1950s took over and due to a leasement agreement; the name was changed to green’s barbeque. 12 year old James Drexler worked with his uncle in the restaurant in the 1970s and learned various aspects of the business. After his uncle’s demise in 1982, he took over the business and ended the lease naming the BBQ Drexler’s Bar-B-Que in 1985. Though the organization continues to be a family business, there are various specializations of tasks in the business with James Drexler, his mother Eunice Scott, and his sister Virginia Scott taking control of the company. There are other few full time employees apart from the summer holidays when various nephews come to help out. Mrs. Scott employs the virtues of honesty, hard work and treating people fairly in addition to her respect for God and giving back to the society. Drexler’s is not flexible since it closes at 6.pm and does not open in Saturdays and Sundays and has not changed their menu for years. Despite this, the business has continued to thrive each year. Questions Values play an important role in the interaction of Drexler’s bar-b-que with its neighbors and customers. It employs the values of honesty, hard work and fair treatment of all for its customers to ensure that every gets equal and high quality treatment. Moreover, it employs the values of giving back to its African –American society to ensure that they capitalize on their need of sharing their resources with their neighbors in their surrounding African American society. Though Drexler’s closes early that is 6 pm, is not open on Sundays and Mondays, and it have not changed the menu for years, the operation of the organization is effective. The reason is that Drexler’s records improvement every year. Moreover, the employment of the values of honesty, hard work and fair treatment is effective in enabling the organization deal well with its customers adding to its success (Griffin & Moorhead, 2010). The organization also gives back to the society adding to the reputation of its brand. This in turn increases their brand loyalty thus increasing the effectiveness of the barbeque (Nigel, David, Nikala, & Douglas, 2006). A system model involves the combination of various elements to enable the completion of a task. Working together of a system’s part enables the accomplishment of the goals of an organization. This includes the inputs of the system providing all the needed resources to accomplish the goals of the system. The barbeque applies various resources including human capital, raw materials required, money to keep the barbeque operational and the building where the barbeque is located. A system’s process is the area where action is undertaken to achieve the organization’s goals including the technology that the barbeque adopts to ensure that its operations ruins smoothly (Griffin & Moorhead, 2010). It employs the virtues of honesty, hard work and fair treatment for all. A system’s output enables the inputs and the processes adopted by the barbeque to produce the desired output that has seen its progress each year.
