Self-Employment As an entrepreneur, self-employment has given me a sense of self-worth and satisfaction for the last four years that I have run my janitorial business. I have had the opportunity to experience both formal employment and self-employment and subsequently realize that my potential lied in entrepreneurship. It is this drive, to further advance my entrepreneurial skills and acumen that I have chosen to pursue my undergraduate program at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Primarily, I have been attracted by the sufficient resources and exquisite programs that characterize the Wharton School of Business. With its top area of study being an entrepreneurship, I feel that Wharton School of Business highly resonates with my entrepreneurial passion. The Faculty resources, methodology of teaching, research and initiative programs highly corresponded with my personal experiences and the demands of the market. Having encountered the dynamics of self-employment, the teaching methodology which is 40 % case study will accurately relate industry events with class lectures.

I was further attracted by school’s resources which included 20 business research centers and the Wharton- INSEAD alliance programs. As an entrepreneur, these programs and Initiatives will enable me to access global knowledge and expertise on best practices and operations that will be implemented at the Daffern Industries, a personal business venture. My key interest in the school’s research initiatives is the Sol C. Snider Entrepreneurial Research Center which is chiefly dedicated to the study of wealth creation at a global scale and the reexamination of international competitiveness.

Apart from the resources and programs offered by the school, I also look forward to learning in highly competitive and diverse social environment. I believe that entrepreneurship should be founded on diversity and social integration. Vis a vis, the Wharton school of Business and the entire University of Pennsylvania presents an almost ideal diverse community in terms of gender composition, ethnicity ratio and globalization. I intend to gain in-depth insight and non-prejudiced perspective on the diverse community of the school for both personal and entrepreneurial growth.

At the individual level, I believe that my skills, character and personal experience qualify me as fit for admission at the Wharton school of business, University of Pennsylvania. It is prudent that I note that my GPA is lower than the average GPA of applicants to the school. However, I have worked hard to build exemplary work ethic and personal drive by paying my school fees. I have also successfully balanced full-time work and full-time schooling to obtain my first undergraduate degree. With regards to experience, I have been self-employed since 2007 to date, operating a janitorial business.

I have also worked as a legal assistant, hunting guide and an intern between 2007 to date. As a sole proprietor, I have developed leadership skills which include time management skills, decision-making skills, critical thinking and communication skills. The Wharton school of business is not only equipped with the relevant resources and facilities for my career advancement, but the school itself embodies my personal business school dream. It is my opinion that the future of business studies lies on entrepreneurship and Wharton Business School is the key towards my successful career in the business industry.

The potential of Wharton business school is limitless and so is my potential in the field of entrepreneurship. I believe that being admitted to the school will mark a crucial step towards nurturing of my talent and subsequent growth of my business ventures.
