Skill Application Evaluation Building Relationship by Communicating Supportively Q1 The use of cases in solving problems incorporates a primary activity of building relationships through communication. I have chosen supportive communication as the activity. My choice of the activity is because it is problem-oriented, not person oriented. I chose this topic to assist me in solving finding solutions to the problems I encounter with my sister in our relationships. I hope to gain answers on how best I can build my relationship with people that I have disagreements with such as my sister. Communication with my sister through the phone has been poor. The texts and phone calls always lead to disagreements with her. The messages have no significant meanings. Besides, anytime I humbly pass my positive intentions to her through the phone, I only receive negative odds; she misinterprets the intentions since she thinks that I am furious. I have chosen the activity to build a relationship by communicating supportively with my elder sister in order to heal our family relationship. I feel unreal associating positively with friends rather than my sister who is a family member. I am aware she does not intend to do anything to harm me. I am dedicated to give Kerry, my sister, a chance in my life. In addition, I intend to offer her an opportunity to be a sister who can listen and reason with me. Whenever our parents speak, they support and encourage us to be friends and solve our differences amicably. Consequently, our parents silence us to find lasting peace for us. Therefore, the activity I chose for building relationships by communicating supportively and engaging in supportive communication as problem-oriented and not person-oriented, assisted my sister and me, into knowing each other’s character and learning from one another. This skill application in problem solving has assisted me in gaining and learning human differences in terms of character and, hence building my relationships through effective supportive communication. Q 2 When solving disagreements an individual experiences various problems. In settling conflicts between my sister and I, I experienced challenges from developments of different characters displayed by my sister, since most of the communication between my sister and I, were commanded and dictatorial. One of the characters was my sisters raised voice during the discussion period. Moreover, Life at home was unbearable between my elder sister and i. There were many miss-understandings on how we associate and interact daily. My daily experiences with her concentrated on arguments and disagreements on particular issues concerning how we should live in the house. Furthermore, our arguments contributed to us frowning towards each other in any family event or sometimes at home. The silence was because of miss understandings that never came to a final decision and solutions. For a specific period, I have had the feeling that my sister Kerry is getting too protective. She takes me as her small brother who must take orders and forever be under strict supervision. Kerry insists on deciding for me whom to associate with, at what time and what I should be doing. On my side, I never want to live according to her commands. I always want to decide a life of my own, do my own thing in school and at home, but she would never let me. After the mediation, I recognized that I was also inconveniencing my sister Kerry without noticing. Second to that, I had confirmed that my sister has nothing personal with me. However, I developed meaningful and relevant aspects of relationships. I learned that building relationships with supportive communication proved that dictatorial messages towards one another tend to cause conflicts and disagreements. Moreover, distrust and restrictions, inaccurate information delivery and defective communication accelerate arguments and disagreements (Whetten and Cameron 242). The relationship between unskillful communication and interpersonal relationship is evident in the relationship with my elder sister. By this, I appreciate the fact that interpersonal relationship and differences in an organization can result in poor information delivery or communication that may affect the organization negatively. We incorporate supportive communication in any form of organization and relationship to avoid miss presentation of information, which is a result of interpersonal relationships. Supportive communication is congruent, it focuses on the honesty that match the feelings of the though. A supportive communication is not evaluative, it is descriptive enough speaking facts and elaborating why and why not (Whetten and Cameron 248). Kelly did not explain why she did not why my friends around Similarly I did not she did not give me an explanation; this is evidence that the communication we had was not supportive at all. Additionally, more relevant aspects that I learned from building relationships through supportive communication includes, embracing supportive dialogue and focus on finding solutions rather than issuing blames to respective members. This idea is because supportive communication is problem-oriented not person-oriented (Whetten and Cameron 250). The validity of supportive communication makes it communicable flexible and collaborative. Supportive communication is, therefore, essential for team building; it unites people giving the actual representation of self for cooperation, thereby laying a success in any form of organization Q 3 I have learnt several concepts from disagreements between my sister and I. I learnt that personal appraisal is an important factor during the exercise of solving differences between my sister and me. This is because individual behaviors and events portrayed during problem solving activity, allows for the changing of attitudes and experiences of individuals. Besides, I learned Kerry rigidity and unwillingness to accept her mistakes. She will defend herself at times with silence to avoid blame even for her mischiefs. Talking to Kerry was the bravest approach ever, I could not do it alone, I had to bring in Uncle Bravo. Uncle Bravo is our favorite uncle; we heed his advisers since our childhood. He is brave and funny this makes him the best person to understand and mediate between Kerry and me. The mediation was a success, since we incorporated the activity of problem-oriented and not personal oriented as a skill application evaluation of solving problems. Uncle Bravo, who was the mediator, questioned many of our differences and asked for clarifications from the two of us. He reflected various instances in the talk that enabled us understand the reason for our disagreements. After the whole talk, I realized that I was not also fair to my sister. I was ever indifferent and never gave her any concentration at all whenever she had important things to pass to me, it was the same way I fell towards her. We were both impervious to one another minding none others feeling and had little concern for one another. Kerry was advised to practice egalitarianism by uncle Bravo, who also questioned my flexibility in the communications we have had. He advised me to be receptive to Kerry and admit learning from her anytime. Therefore, building relationships through supportive communication assists in solving problem-oriented issues rather than personal oriented issues. Work Cited Whetten, David and Cameron, Kim.
