Introduction Bronx Elderly Care Charity Organization (BECCO) is a local non – profit charity organization with an aim of helping the elderly community lives in Bronx, New York City. The organization was founded in November 2010 by the local community people who decided to come together to help the elderly. BECCO has around forty employees who rely on donations and funding to help the elderly in the area. Part of the job of the organization is to locate senior citizens in the area who are needy and lonely. They help bring food to the people and talk to them on a regular basis. Recently, the organization decided to build a nursing home for the elderly where it would be easier to care for the needy and lonely. Mission and Purpose of the Organization The mission of the organization is “Providing care for the elderly for better lives”. The senior citizens deserve to have a comfortable life. Most of the elderly people are poor while the others are lonely due to busy family members. Lack of food and proper living conditions make the elderly people vulnerable to different diseases. Providing food and other essential needs helps them live a longer more comfortable life (BECCO, 2015). The people cannot afford any medical care because of the poverty conditions. The organization thus goes ahead and helps the people settle their medical bills in case any of them falls sick. Reason for selecting the organization Bronx Elderly Care Charity Organization (BECCO) is an organization that is close to heart. Growing up, I witnessed many senior citizens suffering in the society. It was, therefore, a privilege to work with BECCO whose sole purpose is to make the lives of the old better than what it was before the organization. The passion for helping the needy led to me working with the organization for a short period before I got back to school. I have worked with other companies and organizations, but BECCO was the place I did my best. It was, therefore, necessary to discuss the organization that is close to heart and where I put work passionately helping the needy in the community. Analysis The organization has workers always working round the clock. Different teams work together to ensure the senior citizens get the help they need. The people are in different teams of five people whose responsibilities go from accounting to managing to fieldwork. The employees with social science skills are sent to ensure the elderly are comfortable and also to discover new homeless, elderly people that could require help. There is a consistent reminder from the leaders about the importance of teamwork in performing our duties. The importance of collaboration is ensuring the organization gets its goals and fast results from the employees (Robbins and Judge, 2015). There is a team whose purpose is to look for sponsors and people who are to help the organization help the needy. The marketing team consists of people from different ethnicity groups (BECCO, 2015). The teamwork helps them to come together and understand each other’s culture. Understanding each other is important in creating a positive environment that ensures work is in a systematic and efficient manner. Teamwork also provides a better working environment. The management team of the organization has to work together as a team to encourage the rest of the employees to perform their duties in a delightful manner (Robbins and Judge, 2015). Teamwork also ensures the gap in the physical distances is closed. The team on the field helping and talking to the needy can communicate with the team in the office working to ensure donors provide for the elderly. There is also a scoop of work that requires the people to have a team to finish on time. An example includes the social workers helping the elderly in their homes or around the area. They need to divide themselves into different groups to ensure all the needy senior people get enough support and assistance in their day-to-day activities. Different people can perform different tasks according to their professional qualification. The different teams must come together to be able to form an organization otherwise there would be no BECCO in existence. Communication is necessary for any organization. The people on the same team cannot work if there is any lack of communication (Robbins and Judge, 2015). The communication at BECCO is proper and thus efficient. The different teams were able to work together to help the senior citizens because of the good communication in the organization. Managers and team leaders at BECCO insist on the importance of communication to be able to create a proper working environment. It is also vital as it makes the organization provide services to the needy people in the community. The organization also has many volunteers that assist the social workers to perform their duties. The volunteers are helping due to the presence of communication in the organization that is evident in the work in the area. Lack of proper communication leads to the fall of the whole group who are working extra hard to provide care to the senior citizens of Bronx. Communication is not only between the employees. There is a need for proper communication between the employees and the community of people they are helping in their daily activities (Robbins and Judge, 2015). The people require a person who understands them when talking to them. Great communication means the elderly will be satisfied and at peace that is the purpose of the organization. Great communication also makes the old open up about their lives and fears and thus ensures BECCO providing them with the appropriate care (BECCO, 2015). Leadership is essential in any organization. Great leaders ensure the success of any organization in performing their duties. Great leadership leads to the employees performing their best to help achieve the goals of any organization. BECCO has a group of management leaders from the CEO to General Managers and then the team leaders. Organizational leadership ensures everyone performs their duties to the best of their knowledge. Each of the departments has different teams that get guidance from their team leader (Robbins and Judge, 2015). It is important for every team to write down their duties and responsibilities for the weak to be able to come up with great results at the end of the week. The general managers together with the CEO do long-term decisions about the organization. The recent acquisition of a building to house the needy is due to the excellent leadership skills from the management of the organization. The leaders came up with the appropriate long-term plan that now will ensure proper running of the organization and the home for the elderly (BECCO, 2015). The senior citizens have been getting help from BECCO, but they have not been staying at a familiar place. Ensuring the lonely and needy elderly people get the proper care would be easier from the same location instead of moving from one area to another. Good leadership also ensures that the employees get the motivation to perform their duties properly and to the best of their abilities. Good leadership includes appropriate job appraisals for the employees, the motivation for the team and encouragement to the team members to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Good leadership skills reflect well on the goals and aspirations of any organization (Robbins and Judge, 2015). It is evident enough on BECCO when they were able to acquire a proper home for the elderly. The organization BECCO as any other organization has an organizational culture in performing their duties. It might be difficult for a new employee to adapt to the organization culture (Robbins and Judge, 2015). It is important therefore for the people working to help the new employees to adjust to the new culture. Examples of organization culture include their time management, communication with their clients and the relationship between the management crew and the other employees. BECCO is an organization that finds time management as an important part of all their activities (BECCO, 2015). Employees are supposed to get to work on time and perform all their duties in the stipulated period. It is important for the employees to maintain time because delaying in any project will slow down the help the elderly people need. Welcoming new employees in a good way is another culture the people of BECCO had in running the organization. The new employees were received very well by the others and had to go an induction of at least one week. It is important to have an induction since it helps the new employee familiarize with the new environment (BECCO, 2015). The clients are the number one priority of the organization as the people have decided to help the needy. It is important to treat the clients’ right since they are senior citizens who are helpless in the society. The senior citizens need full attention that will help them have a great old life. The relationship between the employees and their employer is also an important part of the BECCO culture. The managers treat the employees with the required respect, and the same is done by the employees to the managers (BECCO, 2015). A proper work relationship ensures efficient working conditions and thus helps in achieving the goals of the organization. The organization also will have more organizational culture as it grows since it is only five years old at the moment. Recommendations The organization BECCO is a great group that a person would be privileged to work. There are however recommendations that would help the team perform better than what they are currently doing. One of the recommendations is the organization needs to find more donors and sponsors that would assist the organization provides for more needy elderly people of Bronx. The group is also growing at a fast rate since its inception, and it would be significant if they increase the number of employees to be able to reach people that are more elderly. It is, however, possible if it got more donors to help it grow. Expanding into other regions of New York City and eventually countrywide would be necessary for the organization as it means helping more needy people. Conclusion Several aspects make up any organization's success. The organization should be careful in ensuring they possess the required qualities in ensuring the growth of the organization. BECCO is a non–profit organization whose sole purpose is to assist the elderly in the Bronx community get their daily needs. The team has stuck to its purpose hence the success of BECCO.
