Research Paper Research Paper Purpose The Boeing Company decided to build a jetliner that is able to carry many passengers thanbefore. Because of this, company had to build a facility to secure this jetliner. The company decided to settle with Everett, Wash as the site of the factory. The plans started, and the place was flocked by people every single day. This site became a tourist site. All the investors wanted to see where the giant get liner was been made from and how it was being made. Both customers and suppliers were there in plenty to mark the world history. The temporary construction for the people who wanted to view the Everett factory became small because of the number of people visiting the place (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The number was increasing every single day. A permanent construction was then made for them but this time a bigger one 5500 square-foot. Background The Boeing company had decided to bring a huge thing into the market; the giant jetliner. Everything was in order other than their underestimation of the number of visitors who are willing to visit the site where the jet was being constructed. The demand of people and the rate at which these visitors were flocking the area was growing very fast and this was calling for the construction of a large jetliner and a huge building to cater for the increasing demand. Therefore, the company was left with no other choice but to build another building for them. This became like a tourist site where people travel miles away just to come and see the construction (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The building was successful even though by the time the jet was almost ready another building was constructed in order to occupy more people. Scope The project key stake holders includes any airline that is a member of the IATA BSP, the company that will provide EMD systems, the company that will give the functions of the ET and EMD to the airline agencies, the industries settlement systems that give report to their respective countries and departure control systems. The project team engaged all members of the company in scope. A minimum seat capacity of the project was engaged by representatives of every department to represent each department and the project and get a commitment to the deadline (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). For the departments that were delaying a warning was sent to the departmental heads. Ensuring that the visitors were okay and that they were comfortable was the top in the company’s priorities. Every member of the company was therefore requested to work on that. Through the life cycle of the project, the building is expected to have enough to cater for the visitors. This is not only during the construction of the giant jet but also after the construction. The EMD system providers are very important when it comes to the initiative and also need be associated in order to reach the Boards mandate of industry ability. The project team paid the main system providers a visit in order to ensure that the EMD servers were making progress. The system providers are supposed to be working all the time in order to make sure the project goes smoothly and as quick as possible. If they delay then the project will also delay; the system providers are supposed to be efficient and effective (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). A project information blog is accessible in the internet where updates are made about the project citation and the progress of the EMD system. The purpose of this blog is to communicate everything to its customers wherever they are. This will also help in increasing the market share of the company. This will happen if they like what is posted in the blog. Event participation is some of the tactics the company used for communication. Communication through the blog will ensure the clients and all stakeholders are thoroughly and well informed about the progress of the company which will then increase their confidence in the company. Increased customer confidence means increased market share as the company will be able to maintain its existing clients and attract new clients. Project approach Joining forces with all the members of the company in order to ensure the building of the new visitors’ site is one on the major ways the company used to beat time. The company used this strategy to make sure everybody was involved and that their effort was being used to ensure that the construction was over. The company is strategic about defining the approach to projects. The company understands that every project comes with an opportunity of building a story or determines who the company is. Therefore, the company does not shy away from the difficult projects as every challenge is a gateway to victory. The company embraces all projects with enough confidence of knowing that the company is innovative, eager, experienced and truly committed towards making each of its projects a success (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). Also, the company plans to have the project complete at the estimated costs and in accordance with the scheduled time plan. The company has a good record of meeting demand on time accountability and superiority The company used very complex and technical tools in order to build not just a building but one of the best since people all over the world were visiting the area. Everybody in the company was held responsible for the work they do, and any mistake is not tolerable. The company has very committed employees, clients and suppliers. This enabled smooth running of the project without delay from either the employees or the suppliers of the materials needed. This is what good will does. If a company has a good reputation, no supplier would be willing to deny you the materials. The construction relies on the broad-based view point of the market based on the project team in various tasks in the project in order to ensure high work efficiency. The Boeing Company has its good reputation which makes it easier to get their deliverables. They have been in the airline company for long and therefore they can easily be trusted by the suppliers (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). Management approach Team building is one of the major approaches of managing a project. Ensuring that there is unity among the employees and the rest of the people working on the project are very important. In this case, the contribution of every worker and their relationship helped a lot. The relationship between the company and the suppliers also counts because if it is not a good one, it will be hard for the company to get supplies efficiently (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The manager should be very experienced in the work and should be able to work efficiently in times of pressure. The problem in the Boeing Company started when the company failed to take statistics of the people who liked the idea. This is the work of the managers to know when the statistics are to be taken and from where. If the managers had carried out this task, the problem of the temporary building would not be faced. The company would be aware of the right number of people expected to come and visit the site. With this information gotten from all methods of data collection, which include interviews, questionnaires and so forth, the company will save itself a whole lot of extra work (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The other reason why the construction could have been wrongfully measured is the reporting criteria in the company. If the reporting criteria are poor in the company in that the field surveyors are not sure of whom to report to, then it could lead to all these confusion. The person who was handed the report might not be very knowledgeable about that field. Therefore identifying any mistakes made is really hard. The person in charge should be knowledgeable about the project so as to identify any mistakes made. The hierarchy in the company should also be defined well in order to avoid such confusions. It is better if everyone handled his or her own department (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The other reason why the mistake could have occurred in a company that has several managers is the issue of negligence. Negligence in work can really mess up the entire system. The company should employ people who are qualified and do not need to work under the supervision. If you apply other techniques to gauge your employees other than by supervising them, their quality of work will improve tremendously. Using techniques like allowances and incentives to reward the best performing employees will improve their work since they have something to motivate them In this case the work could even be delegated to one of the employees as a project of his own. Deal with it and bring a complete report at the end of the expected time period. Work done by one profession is efficient than work done by many people. This is not a small company; the best way to run a big company is by dealing with specialization where you do not need to rely on anyone in order to complete your job. One person can do it as the rest of the company deal with more pressing matters of the company (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). Instead of employing supervisors, the company can also use the CCTV camera to watch the employees. It may be expensive at first, but since it is a one-time thing. It is totally worth it compared to the very many supervisors you will have in the company to watch their fellow employee’s, chances are that there will be no feedback. The use of CCTV cameras is also quite efficient as the managers will be able to access the working of the employees. They will get first hand information about the working of the employees. No one wants to betray their colleague since you might need their help someday (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The supervisors will be demanding their salary at the end of the month which can be saved by the use of the CCTV cameras. Though this is a major problem that the company is facing, they could use it as a great opportunity where the company will earn from the tourists who come to see the progress of the jet. The money spent on constructing the other building will definitely be gotten back and a whole lot of profit to the company. There is the need for the company to grab the opportunity company and not see it as a problem (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). The sooner they realize that it is an opportunity the better. Constraints The start off date for the project to be started is already set so are the materials. The time has been spread well and that the deadline should be a maximum of two months. The building should not go beyond that set date since it will ruin all the other plans. The budget of the building has been made and to the minimum cost possible but with the best materials. The board has tried to minimize the budget, but it cannot go beyond that (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). As the company will use the latest technology and the EMD system providers, the work is expected to be excellent. The construction workers have also been selected form a well known contractor who has worked with them for several years, and their performance is great it cannot be questioned. Use of CCTV cameras is quite a challenge for the company due to the large sums of money involved in the installation. However, once the CCTV cameras have been installed, then the company will enjoy all the benefits which come with them. Conditions of satisfaction The work will be supervised by the head of the team project in order to ensure that everything goes as planned. Nothing is expected to go wrong because everything is available all is left is the construction to take place. The company’s assumption is that by the end of the two weeks, the visitors should be able to use the new building in which the visitors will be required to pay an entrance fee. The company is hoping that the entrance fee will not stop the visitors from coming to the site. The company will therefore not charge a lot for the entrance fee; just enough to ensure the company gets its returns for the building (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). It is risky not knowing whether the visitors will still want to come even after the completion of the giant jet. The visitor may come but not as much as they are coming as the giant jet is being constructed. However, the company hopes for the best. A business is about risk taking, and this company is not an exception. The company believes in taking risk just like any other business. That is why the company has decided to take up a huge risk of producing a giant jet in the market, one that is capable of carrying twice the amount of people the previous ones did. This is a huge move to the company and therefore taking a small risk like this building is not such a big deal (Whitten & Bentley, 2007).
