Step One: Leadership Goals As a leader, my aspirations are to achieve high productivity within my workplace and ensure that each employee worked towards achieving productivity and towards common goals and objectives within the business environment. Based on this, my desire, as a leader, is to ensure that I worked hard towards bringing out maximum productivity within the potential of each employee under my supervision. This way, I will be in a position to ensure that there was cohesion within the workplace with the employees working towards achieving a common objective. On the other hand, my interests lie within effective management of the human resource capital in line with making sure that each employee achieved their full potential with an interest of maximizing productivity within the organization. Based on my interests, desires, and aspirations, I hope to lead an organization that strived towards achieving the maximum potential of each employee within a work environment whereby all employees worked towards achieving the mission and visions of the organization. Conversely, I hope to pursue a career track that allowed me to stay updated with the various requirements of my job especially during incidents whereby I change my place of work and continue remaining relevant. Hence, education and training will be the career track that I intend to pursue with the aim of staying relevant and up to date with the requirements of the roles that I played within my workplace. One year after my graduation, I expect to hold an assistant administrative management position within my workplace one year after my graduation. This will be after qualifying from a graduate management trainee position within the same organization, which usually takes one year after joining the workplace. Thereafter, I plan to engage in further education and training in order to become an assistant human resource manager within the organization, or in another organization, since I have an interest in human resource capital as I realize its importance in achieving the objectives of the organization. Finally, continued growth and development of my career will see me become an organization’s human resource manager ten years following my graduation from university. Step Two: Leadership Qualities About the assessment related to gender, it is evident that the current job environment witnesses a situation whereby gender no longer defines the different tasks and responsibilities given to different people within the workplace setting. As earlier indicated, my desire is to ensure that all employees realized their maximum potential with a view of ensuring that they worked towards achieving the organization’s objectives and goals. In this case, my role as a manager will be to ensure that employees are not assigned responsibilities based on their gender, but based on their capabilities and potential to deliver on their job. This will ensure that issues of gender relations do not affect the workplace setting with employees working cohesively towards achieving the goals and objectives of the organization. On the other hand, HR functions should also focus on instituting gender equality within the workplace setting in order to ensure that employees had equal access to opportunities. Hence, I will ensure that gender issues do not deter me from achieving my aspirations, desires, and pursue my interests within the workplace. Issues of trust within the workplace have a great significance on the achievement of both individual and organizational goals. In the contemporary work environment that is characterized by stiff competition within the organization and outside the organization in a global context, issues related to trust affect the way people interact with each other and how they performed their duties within the workplace setting. Trust issues could act a deterrent towards achieving my goals both as an individual and as a professional. In this case, the lack of trust contributes to a lack of cohesion between employees with each working towards achieving different goals and objectives that were different from organizational expectations. Hence, this will deter me from achieving my goals especially in instances whereby the level of trust within the workplace setting is low. However, high level of trust brings cohesion with employees working towards achieving the same goals, which enhances the likelihood of achieving my personal and career goals. Concerning the human capital, it is common knowledge that all organizations recognize the important role played by the human capital in achieving the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the organization. This reason explains the amount of investment that organizations make regarding the recruitment, selection, and picking of employees to work in the workplace. Furthermore, organizations make more investments in the training, development, and growth of the human resource capital within the workplace. In view of this, human capital will support the achievement of my desires, aspirations, and interests since the investments made by an organization determines the efficient level of the human capital in achieving the goals and objectives of the organization. Hence, the human capital can only work towards ensuring that I achieved my goals within the workplace and on an individual level. Cultural difference could act as a deterrent towards the achievement of my individual and career goals. In this case, cultural differences have an effect on the way that people communicated within the workplace. It is common knowledge that the achievement of goals is pegged on effective communication among employees working within the same organization. In this case, different cultures have a different way of communicating instructions and this could influence the support that I received, as a manager, from other employees with this consequently influencing their attitude towards me as their leader. It is evident that attitudes affect the level of productivity and the motivation of employees with each employee’s attitude determining whether I achieved my goals. Based on this, it is evident that cultural differences could deter me from achieving my goals. On the other hand, cultural differences when focusing on the aspect of different customs, gestures, and mannerisms affect the way people interact, which could have an adverse effect on the communication process and this could deter the achievement of my goals. On matters regarding leadership-member relationships, this could have an impact on the achievement of my goals in two different ways by either supporting their achievement or acting as a deterrent to the achievement of my personal and career goals. First, it is evident that there is no way that I could have a similar relationship with all employees. Hence, there are those employees that I could trust more than I could trust other employees and this could make them work hard towards achieving my goals and those of the organization, as they know what I expected of them. For this reason, my leadership-membership relationship with these employees supports me towards achieving my goals, as it is evident that I will trust them with challenging projects since I view them as invaluable assets. On the other hand, I could have other subordinates whose relationship with me does not allow me to present them with challenging projects. Such a relationship deters me from achieving my goals and objectives. Finally, leader’s behavior could either support or deter me from achieving my goals at a personal and career level. In this case, my subordinates acquire my behavior at the workplace since they are able to learn from their leaders with leaders transferring bad or good qualities to their subordinates. As a leader, cutting the image of an individual who is hardworking and determined provides my subordinates with a perfect example of behavior that is expected within the workplace. In so doing, my behavior, as a leader, will ensure that I achieved my goals within the workplace. On the other hand, exhibiting behavior that could be construed as lax could deter me from achieving my goals as my subordinates could copy such behavior and become less productive. Step three: Importance of the Course on my Leadership Experience This course has made immense efforts in ensuring that I acquired skills and knowledge that will help me achieve my career goals and objectives in my workplace. First, the process of setting my goals and objectives has provided me with skills and knowledge required on identifying other important areas such as my desires, aspirations, and interests. In this case, I have identified the importance of incorporating them during the process of goal setting in order to define a clear path that I needed to follow when working. On the other hand, I have gained important goal setting skills that have enlightened me on the idea that the process of goal setting does not only include the process of identifying the goals. Rather, this process incorporates other aspects that define the process through which the goals will be achieved and how to eliminate any factor that could deter me from achieving the goals. On the other hand, this course has sharpened my leadership skills and provided me with insights on the importance of leadership in achieving the goals of the organization and ensuring that each employee worked towards achieving these goals. In this case, the course has emphasized the role of ensuring that the human capital supported leadership in achieving both personal and organizational goals by maintaining a cohesive work environment that supported the achievement of common goals. In this case, the course has enlightened me that the essence of being a leader is to be an effective manager who worked towards ensuring that all employees support the goals of the organization. More so, a leader ties their personal goals with those of the organization, as this is the most appropriate approach in which the human capital can support leaders in achieving their personal goals.
