Managers are those people who direct, handle, control and succeed in their decisions or decisions of the organization for which he/ she is working for. Top managers succeed in what they are doing just because they display some characteristics like inspiring, motivation and involvement of all employees in decision making of the company or organization. Some leaders fail miserably making the organization or company to have bad image. It is because they do not poses these characteristics and this makes their employees to quit jobs not because they dont like it but because of the manager. It is because of these reasons that Mr. A manager at Citrus Systems Madison, 3101 Fish Hatchery Road Madison, WI 53713,raskren@citrus systems.com chooses to be different. He exhibits the below different personality traits that help him to manage the company to be in its current status. Firstly communication is the key to good management. He is able to communicate as well as listen to his employees’ views. He is able to communicate effectively by processing information and then relating it back to their teams. Therefore he is able to decipher, understand and relate the companys visions back to the employees thus attaining the current productivity stage. Secondly he has leadership skills(John, 2008). The skills make him to promote his employees to achieve their individual best results. He genuinely allocates roles depending on one’s strengths and interest and at the same time ensuring that they all complete the given task. He is also able to provide direction, instill trust and delegate duties to all or amongst the team members. Thirdly he is fair, meaning he doesn’t have or play any favorites. He ensures that that there is firm, fair and honest approach in decisions made in the company. It has made the company to avoid resentment frustrations and anger among employees. Fourthly, he is accountable for all that takes place in the company. He has been passing credits of success in accountability and responsibility to his team members thereby building their trust on him. Fifthly, adaptability makes managers to deliver their services effectively. He is able to adjust quickly to unexpected occurrences thereby making the team members to also adjust as well. He is able to think critically and creatively to find new solutions to the old problems. Sixthly, he is able to build personal relationships with the teams in the company. His relationship with the employees makes them to have trust in him, feel valued and thus their expectations, willingness and effort to get the job done right is increased(John, 2008). Lastly he develops others. As a manager he knows when and how this should be done. Therefore he involves each individuals talents, nature them and motivate them to channel their talents towards productivity of the company. Sixthly he develops himself by being aware of his personal developments. Here he is able to use natural talent to the best of his ability and this is encouraged even to the employees. What do you think this managers Myers-Briggs personality assessment is? Why? This managers Meyers- Briggs personality assessment is ESTJ. It is so because in Extroversion he is able to interact with people more than introversion can and this makes him able to think things through. In Sensing he is able to perceive tangible facts and act on them more than intuition that can only sense new capabilities but dont do anything. In Thinking he is able to make decisions affecting the company based on objective logic and reasoning more than Feeling that makes decisions based on subjective values. In Judgment he is able to lead the company in an organized and flexible life style more than perception that only deals with flexible style. All these shows that he is keenly aware of the situation and the structures to be put in place such as roles and responsibilities that people have. With this type of personality if there are no established procedures and a situation of chaos arises, he is able to put logical organization and structure in place to make things work better. What type of personality assessment do these managers’ employees have? The manager’s employees pose the ENTJ personality assessment type. In Extraversion perspective they like interacting among themselves more than thinking things thought of introversion. In intuition they are able to perceive new possibilities more than sensing tangible facts. In thinking they make decisions basing their arguments on objective logic more than making those decisions on subjective reasoning. In Judgment they look for organized life style more than perception that dwells on flexible lifestyle (Anna, 2005). Therefore these employees are looking forward to develop better organization of structures to make things done the way they want them to be. These employees also work to meet task oriented goals but are ambitious and they always want to grow to take the company to the next level. They also like to work with visioned members who are doing their bests as professionals to do their job appropriately by implementing the improvements they envisage . Which type of motivational theory does this manager use? Why? How? This manager uses Herzbergs two- factor theory. The theory is used because he also considers work place to be made up of two categories that are separate. He firstly conceders hygienic conditions such as benefits, title, pay, status, work conditions, organization culture and job suitability to be critical in developing workers morale. Secondly he considers motivational factors such as recognition, achievement, personal growth and personal investment as those factors that will make the employee to aim higher thus making them be in their current status. How he uses this type of motivation depends on the nature of employees he has. By making the hygienic factors positive and adequate for all employees, it helps in creating a state of neutrality and thus preventing any mistrust that may arise from his employees. For example he harmonizes the work load, benefits and salaries they receive. He does it so as to unit them with none having a feeling that the other is paid well than him or her. For the motivation factors he ensures that one is rewarded for exemplary work done to impact on the others to also work like the rewarded fellow (Dorian, 1987). For example achievement and personal growth, he has a payment plan that sees those in the sales department to be praised both formally and informally. What motivates this manager? This manager of citric systems Madison confirmed that he is motivated by a number of things in the company. They include; challenging work, his opinion counting during decision making, recognition when a wonderful work is done by him, well paying, working for a company he is proud of, good fair performance measures in place, clear performance goals, job security and special incentives. He also acknowledged that opportunity to learn more in the job, harmonious relationship with the workers and the trust they bestow on him makes him feel better day by day. What motivates employees in this company? The employees here are motivated by a number of factors such as their opinion being considered in decision making of the company, being proud working for a company they feel good to be associated with, clear job performance, job benefits and salaries, recognition when work is done well and inter relationship between the departments leading to good working relationships. Their most motivator that was noted is excellent working conditions that refrain them from contracting diseases that might deteriorate them health wise (John, 2008). What sources of stress does this manager have? This manager normally experience stress related to money. As it is known that everyday people work to get money, it is never enough. Therefore this manager admitted that there are some times that the money he has is not enough for all that he wants to do, this in turn causes stress as he ponders on how to go about it. Another stressor is job that never ends (Robert, 2004). He says that he works hard to reach the deadlines but there are some situations that he is forced to ditch the deadline time. Another stressor is from holiday pressures. It comes as a result of planning some major events such as retirement parties, promotion parties, companys achievement or anniversary parties and end year parties. Environmental stressors like weather and traffic jams also make him stressed mainly during the rush hours from work place to the house. Preparing to interview job seekers, public speaking and work presentations has also brought stress situation to him especially getting the materials needed in place. These stressors are managed by use of different strategies which include; avoiding what can trigger stress, healthy living which include enough sleep, balanced diet, and physical exercise which include taking a walk, going to the gym, aerobics, and merserge to increase blood flow in the whole body. What sources of stress do these managers employees have? These employees face money related stress. It is evidenced that what they are paid still is not able to cater fully for their daily recurring needs. They also face stress brought about by weather and traffic jams. Here most of the workers still dont have personal cars and therefore when they are traveling from home to board a bus to work them sometimes get there late especially when it is raining (William, 2001). At these times and during rush hours the vehicles again take long before they reach their destination. They also face work pressure related stress. It occurs mostly when the company is planning to have a mega function or parties like end year parties. It also occurs when there are very urgent issues that need to be attended to within a stipulated time period. Some of them have undergone through psychological stress caused by loss is their loved ones back at home. How does this manager handle their employees stress? He handles them in different ways i.e. by looking at the root cause of it before suggesting a remedy (John, 2008). For those who lose their beloved ones, he ensures that the company members contribute some cash which is taken to the believed as a sign of consolation. For the stress that occur due to event plan innings he normally give a day or two out of work place for the employee to ponder on the previous activities and come back rejuvenated. He also involve external speakers who talk to the employees on how to avoid stressors, dealing with financial constraints and practicing healthy living which include taking a walk, going to the gym or hydrotherapy to relax the muscles. What types of decisions does this manager usually make? Programmed decisions also known as operational decision making. This involves very structured steps taken to solve a situation that is getting out of hand. The decision is normally short termed and is given according to some of the laid down norms and procedures. This type of decision is repetitive in nature. For example he makes decisions on how the workers are allocated their jobs and daily routine chores that they should check while at the work place. Another type is non programmed or strategic decisions. Here he makes new decisions that are very innovative in nature, strategic and is long termed. In situations such as job hiring which is important and critical he makes good judgment based on creativity and knowledge and experience gained previously. What style of decision making is used? Why? This companys manager uses the decision made by the individual branch or departmental managers to implement some of the issues to be addressed. He also uses consultative decision making approach. Here it can be done either formally or informally. Meetings can be convened and out of there decisive decisions can be taken to help solve a crisis. He is also flexible in using group decisions which involve brainstorming, task groups, consensus mapping and normal grouping techniques. All these are used because the manager is flexible in trying out many ways in order to reach a very concise and good decision. The workers are all involved in the decision-making process. As earlier indicated this is one of the things that they confided motivating since all the issues discussed are known to them and decisions taken are agreeable by all of them. What teams are in this organization? This organization is made up of different teams which include leadership teams. This is comprised of manager s of departments who work together in line with companys vision and mission. Cross functional teams are also available made up of technicians. They check the functioning system of the company in a unified manner. Self directed teams are also found here. Most of the workers fall here as there is no leader to direct but everybody just coordinates their roles which go in line with the others thereby making the organization to run smoothly. Quality circles teams made upon up to ten members, here helps the management aware, analyze and address within the work flow of an organization. They are concerned with the overall performance of the company. Lastly there are task force teams who work independently and recommend what is to be done for the smooth running and management of the company (John, 2008). Are the teams cohesive? All the teams are cohesive in nature and they work hand in hand and by coordination which at the end of the day sees the company moving to greater heights. How does the manager deal with social loafing? The manager is able to deal with this by developing regulations and rules of conduct, establishing individuals accountability, encouraging group loyalty, selecting complementary and enthusiastic team members, minimizing teams, establishing ground rules, defining the tasks, highlighting accomplishments and achievement and inspecting what the company expects. How does the manager build trust in their teams? He makes sure that everyone is accountable for what they are doing and strengthening the relationship bonds amongst the members. He also ensures that every ones opinion is respected and count (John, 2008). How does team building occur? Team building occurs by those who do work that is in the same line being put together. They are encouraged to create beneficial networks to the company with other companies whose vision and mission is in line with theirs. What type of communication commonly occurs in this organization? The type of communication is both lateral and vertical. Information from above is able to reach the workers at the grassroots levels by continuous flow from higher levels to lower. For the feed back to reach the top it follows the same path. Information that involves workers at department levels is doing laterally. What is the most effective form and why? The most effective form of communication is by both formal and informal ways. This makes sure that everybody gets the message without being left behind. What communication barriers that exist? The main barriers that exist are psychological and physiological. These deals with the way one will get the message synthesize it and act according to the instructions of the message. What cross cultural and gender issues in communication exist? Cultural issues that exist are that the head of departments need to be informed first before any information goes out to other workers. For the gender issues he has tried to tame it down and to date no such related issues exists. What sources of power are evident in this manager’s organization? Here the source of power evident is through the ability to influence the workers and assuring them that you can do your best. How does this manager influence their employees? He is able to explain to them what the mission and vision of the company is and thus they are able to see sense in it and do as instructed. What sources of conflict exist in this organization? The only evident source here is conflict of interest. This arises when procurements are to be made and different members in this committee have their interest that they feel should not be overlooked (John, 2008). How is conflict managed? Conflicts that arise due to these if referred to the companys procurement procedures constitution which stipulate clearly what should be done. Thus mediating the rival forces. What type of leadership style does this manager have? Is it effective? Why? The manager has transformational style of leadership. It has been effective because since the manager came into being in the company many things have been transformed and the company has taken to greater height that other companies working in juice also want to associate with it.
