In most occasions, the facility is used for cricket though it also hosts the rugby league, concerts, Australian Rules football, soccer, and rugby union. The iconic Adelaide Oval underwent through major redevelopment for transformation into the world class sporting facility. During the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, the stadium hosted four matches. Its expansion started with the Western Grandstand Redevelopment Project, which was undertaken by the South Australian Cricket Association in 2009. Australian government invested A$535 to redevelop the stadium which involved constructing two additional grandstands with designs that portray individual pavilions, entry plaza, and corporate and player facilities (Adelaide Oval, 2016). The Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (AOSMA) manages the stadium. Globally, countries are focusing on increased needs to exploit talents among the youths to curb the increasing unemployment rate; as a result, the expansion and redevelopment of the facility aimed to increase the accommodation level of the stadium and bring many youths on board. The stadium is constructed in a manner that it increases the ultimate spectator experience. The atmosphere inside the facility is something to savor: it has high-quality audio systems that deliver quality sound and giant screens, which make the attendants, miss nothing (Kemp, 2012). The stadium is one of the South Australia’s most impressive venues that boasts of picturesque views of the hallowed turf, the City of Adelaide, and St. Peter’s Cathedral. These features provide unique settings for entertaining the clients and celebration of milestones and networking is style. With its diverse range of the rooms, Adelaide Oval can cater for many guests seeking rooms for meetings, seminars, conferences, lunches, weddings, dinners, and cocktail parties (Adelaide Oval, 2012). These services increase the revenue rate for facility, which reduces dependency on government allocation to undertake maintenance activities. Besides offering such services, the Adelaide Oval contributes significantly in hosting major sporting activities. The main sporting activities hosted by the stadium are international and domestic cricket. In the cricketing calendar, the facility hosts most of the events including the Australia Day One Day International, which is a test that occurs annually between Australia and the international visiting team. In 2011, the facility managed to hold the Twenty20 International that involved Australia and England. Moreover, the facility also accommodates the domestic cricket activities (Ivvy, 2013). Adelaide Oval hosts the first-class South Australian team and others including Adelaide Strikers, The West End Southern Redbacks, and the Twenty20 cricket team. There are also football activities taking place within the facility. The facility hosts the matches of Southern Australian National Football League (SANFL). In 2014, the SANFL Finals Series were played at the Adelaide Oval facility. Rugby teams also have some of their matches within the facility. Between 2007 and 2010, the facility hosted the events of the Australia Sevens within the IRB Sevens World Series. Two of the games within Rugby World Cup were held in Adelaide Oval facility. Besides the sporting activities, Adelaide Oval has hosted several concerts with famous artistes. These activities improve the visibility of the stadium within international markets; as a result, Adelaide Oval plays important role in enduring effective economic development, sustainability of Australian sporting industry, and adequate engagement of the youths (Designbuild-network, 2014). Oval heritage is an important aspect of the facility. Adelaide Oval remains committed to the protection of the Australian heritage and beauty of the Adelaide City. While undertaking development within the sport industry, it is important to consider sustainability of the activities undertaken. When redevelopment of the stadium is complete fully, the facility will exceed the Australian design standards for the toilet facilities. This reflects the management commitment to ensure guaranteed comfort of the facility attendants. Planning, Design Features, and Quality of the Facility Adelaide Oval facility is designed to meet internationally required standards. The designs are highly accommodative for the needs of the players, spectators, and those using the facility for various functions. the atmosphere inside the facility ensure great experience of the spectators and offer high quality audio systems to deliver quality sound and three giant replay screens that ensure the spectators catch every moment of the play. Moreover, the crowd circulating through the Western, Riverbank, and Eastern bands is to be facilitated through the concourses, which are up to 10 meters (Adelaide Oval, 2016). The facility also has lifts, stairs, and escalators to ensure efficient delivery of the spectators. In summer, the facility is designed in a manner that it provides shades during summer and ensures adequate protection of different elements during winter; as a result, the facility has 77% of seats under the cover. There are numerous corporate facilities within the facility. Adelaide Oval offers more than 2000 dining spaces, BBQ terraces, Stadium Club, and Corporate Suites. The design intends to have a new international standard indoor cricket centre, which intends to be the home of Cricket in South Australia, ensure adequate increment in the floor area, high performance gym, the indoor cricket nets, and various player facilities. Besides, with increased demand for sporting facilities for talented Australians and those seeking facilities to go for gymnasiums, Adelaide Oval is better placed to ensure the achievement of these objectives (Adelaide Oval, 2016). The Crows and Power have their changing rooms located below the Riverbank Stand, which ensure provision of world class facilities to different teams. The facility has grounds set aside for them that need to socialize with friends, enjoy the historic environment of Adelaide Oval, and spending some time while watching various events or cricket or football games. The facility also offers unique attributes such as Moreton Bay Fig trees, northern mound, the heritage scoreboard, and scenic views of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The management of the facility needs to ensure that people visiting Adelaide Oval experience the greatest level of quality services. As a result, the features are unique in their design. Some of the important facilities within the Adelaide Oval are the BBQ decks, Village Green, outdoor hospitality to encourage both domestic and international tourism activities, and standing room designed using the famous northern mound grass (Novak, 2016). Social facilities are becoming important in the modern society; thus, many sporting facilities are going to an extent of providing such services. It offers great place to take the family considering the number of foods and drinking outlets with several toilets located within the Riverbank and Eastern stands. To ensure adequate provision of quality services, the facility complies with various FIFA standards. Some of the key aspects of FIFA requirements that the facility complies with include the lighting, media facilities, leveled playing grounds, and changing rooms that meet international standards such as player mixing zones and security. Standard and Level of Amenities Adelaide Oval meets several international sporting standards set by FIFA and Australian legislations, which offers it the opportunity to host various international events. The standards of facilities range from the high quality sound systems and giant reply screens that ensure the spectators catch each moment of the game. Adelaide Oval also offers standardized corporate facilities, player facilities, and social facilities. To ensure efficiency in the services provided, the management embraced the using of technology in different aspects. With the introduction of the foods and beverages card only outlets, the management is keen on ensuring greater level of efficiency in providing the required services. After a successful introduction in the cricket season, there are many food and beverage outlets operating in Adelaide Oval that was converted to accept only the cards as the means of payment during the 2017 AFL seasons. For adequate promotion of these activities, the management decided to exempt the credit and debit cards for any surges that could occur. Using the credit and debit cards are meant to ease congestions while fumbling for change and ensuring efficient method of making payment for those who do not wish to carry cash. In addition, there are eleven points within the stadium properly signed as the cards only outlets to reduce confusions while making payments (Adelaide Oval, 2016). However, there are also booths to enable the patrons exchange their cash for food and beverages if they need. Despite increasing levels of economic development, environmental sustainability remains an important practice globally. Before redevelopment, Adelaide Oval underwent through a comprehensive Construction Environmental Management Plan to ensure that the activities undertaken to not have adverse impacts on the environmental conditions, Australian indigenous and non-indigenous heritage, the employees, and the neighboring communities. To ensure effective performance, the amenities provided are subjected to frequent monitoring and updating. Suitability of Facility for Purpose Adelaide Oval presents the sporting industry with unique features that meet international standards. Through such features, the facility has become one of the six best stadiums globally nominated for the Stadium Business award 2016 that is to occur in June. Increasing number of competitions held in South Australia has contributed to the success of the facility that occurs across the border. The facility outdid the rival Melbourne Cricket Ground due to its location and suitability to accommodate various sporting activities and social services. Moreover, the facility has become an international venue for Florida’s Daytona International Speedway, Twickenham in London, and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Stadium Business award recognizes high levels of innovation and accomplishment in the delivery, management, and operations of the sporting facilities. The facility has been able to host several international cricket and soccer matches and music concerts since its redevelopment. The Australian Stadium Management Authority is hopeful that the reputation of would Adelaide Oval continue to grow internationally. The facility is endowed with a mixture of architectural designs, appropriate location, and efficient and qualified staff that could maximize the game day experience. Besides the main prize, Adelaide Oval has also been nominated for various awards such as Premium Seat Award that recognizes its Audi Stadium Club. In addition, the facility’s Commonwealth Bank RoofClimb experience was also nominated for the Fan Experience Award. Through these recognitions, it is evident that the facility meets the required standards for various sporting activities. Since it redevelopment about two and a half years ago, the facility has registered about 2.5 people passing through its gates which reflects the extent to which sport fans recognize the suitability of Adelaide Oval. The designs of the facility recognize people with disability through its special seats and lifts (Baker & Esherick, 2013). To accommodate more people, the climbers are also accommodated through the 16 seats that are on top of the stand to enable the fans have spectacular views of both the Adelaide City and suburbs since the seats are about 50 meters above the goal square.
