Is strong leadership in business organization a good thing? Name Course Institution Professor Date Introduction An institution’s or organization’s ability to achieve success by realizing its goals and objectives lies in the way it is managed. Management of an organization is usually influenced by how the individuals in leadership positions in the organization execute their roles. In this case leadership is very important especially critical analysis is of essence for it to be termed as both good and strong leadership. To begin with strong leadership is a key motivating factor in an organizational setup with the ability of driving an organization towards greater prosperity and increased growth. Management of people or rather employees calls for strong leadership so that all the activities being carried in an organization are aligned with the set milestones that are to be achieved over a specified period of time (Van Vugt, Hogan and Kaiser 2008, p.185). It is quite important for there to exist good relations between and among individuals in an organization. This can only be achieved if the leadership in place fosters good interpersonal relations aligned with the culture of unity in the organization. For an organization to achieve high level of performance strong leadership is of necessity. It may be demonstrated if there are increasingly high levels of both efficiency and effectiveness in processes such as employee work delegation as well as in the interactions between the employees and their leaders (Fiedler and Fred 2001, p.56). This paper seeks to give an illustration of how strong leadership being a vital aspect within a business organizational setup may be viewed as something that is good. The skills that leaders in an organization have are an important consideration in defining whether the kind of leadership in place is strong or not. It is important that leaders in an organization to ensure that they have skills to lead an organization towards high levels of performance. In this case a leader who is highly skilled in their work has the ability and capacity to demonstrate strong leadership in an organization. this may be viewed in line with the fact that a leader should have a strong stand as regards to what they think is good for an organization. They should posses the power to influence others to think in their direction and gain support only because whatever idea they wish to be implemented in the organization is good and free from any biasness as far as the satisfaction of any personal interests and organizational goals is concerned. Strong leadership is never swayed away in a bid to satisfy just a fraction of an organization, it usually has its focus on ensuring that all that is focused upon benefits the entire organization wholly without taking any sides. Strong leadership builds a career in every individual in an organization since its main aim is to build trust in employees, loyalty and commitment showing employees that they too have the obligation of being leaders to themselves if an organization is to succeed from collective effort of all its members (Stogdill 2004, p.39). Strong leadership is therefore a good for a business organization. Devotion to work is an important aspect that strong leadership addresses. This is what determines a leader’s ability to inspire others in what they do. When a leader does their work wholeheartedly their followers are bound to develop the same passion of doing things. The outcomes of these is that more commitment to the organizational goals and objectives may be realized from the side of the employees as they try to ensure that they do their work without necessarily being followed or forced by the leaders in authority (Van Vugt, Hogan and Kaiser, 2008, p.195). Therefore strong leadership is seen as a drive of shaping how people view their responsibilities and how well they can execute them not because they are supposed to or because they are forced to but because they feel that, that is how it should be rightly done. This illustrates that strong leadership is a good thing for business. Strong leadership involves a continuous process of influencing other people. It is characterized by new knowledge and innovation which leaders communicate to their subordinates on how best they can an organizations performance. A leader who is strong ensures that there a sense of creativity through which they develop new ideas besides the fact that they have succeeded in realizing an organization’s objectives. Strong leadership creates room for an organization to further explore its potential and exploit new opportunities which is a good thing for any given business organization (Van Vugt, Hogan, and Kaiser 2008, p.196). for strong leadership to be regarded as good for a business organization there is need for the leaders to be aware of how they behave and the manner in which their behavior impact on the overall performance of the organization. In this case leaders should act as role models in an organization being figures that can be copied with the rest of the members within an organization. In these manner employees in an organization acquire a sense of inspiration from their leaders as they try to act with their actions demonstrating commitment to the achievement of an organization’s goals as it is from reflected from their leaders. A critical evaluation of the behavior of leaders in an organization turns out to be an opportunity to learn for other members in the organization. The fact that the behavior of leaders is able to shape how employees behave makes strong leadership a good for a business organization. An organization’s Future uncertainties require that there be in place strong leadership. New unforeseen circumstances may crop up necessitating rather quick adjustments to be made within a very short period of time. With strong leadership it is usually quite easier for an organization to adjust with the new changes. This may be facilitated by how change is managed within the organization. Leaders who are strong have skills of managing change in an organization with knowledge of communicating the change to the employees in the best way possible to ease the transition process. It is quite important for organizational to be well managed otherwise it may result to resistance by the employees or rise of conflicts (Anderson and Anderson 2001, p.78). Therefore, Strong leadership is therefore deemed to be a good thing for a business organization. It is quite important that people in an organization work as a team. Teamwork in an organization ensures that individual in an organization are in harmony with each other working towards the achievement of a common organizational goal. Strong leadership fosters teamwork. It does so by bringing the members of an organization together making them understand the goals of the organization and how they can be achieved through cooperation with one another. Most importantly teamwork prevents segregation in an organization in line with gender, culture, race as well as social status. All individual are held at an equal level whereby none is viewed nor held as being superior to the other (Andreas and Ream 2008, p.235). Strong leadership ensures that all efforts by all individuals in a team count and that they are all important for the organization. In line with team work strong leadership connects different personalities for a common goal which enables each individual to have an opportunity of appreciating other people’s culture and background. Strong leadership is thus a good thing for a business organization. Risks are common phenomenon within any given business environment. They are a challenging aspect that leaders in an organization should embrace positively. Strong leadership views risks as avenues whereby an organization can identify new opportunities and exploit them. In this regard leaders have the responsibility of managing an organization being at the forefront in looking for ways through which an organization can handle risky circumstances turning them into opportunities. Many a time some leaders are usually not bold enough to take risks. The organizations which they lead are therefore bound to remain in the same status or positions unknowingly of how they can exploit their potential in other ventures. For them it becomes quite difficult to gain a competitive edge. They can easily be driven away from the market. Strong leadership is therefore leadership with confidence to face challenges for the good of business thus it is a good for a business organization. Strong leaders usually strive to improve their experience bettering their skills as far as influencing other in the organization is concerned. This is quite important due to the fact that times are changing and new approaches of management and leadership are coming into place. Need therefore arises for leaders to realize this and try to see how best they can incorporate new ways and approaches of managing and leading an organization. Strong leadership is thus but an avenue that fosters the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and abilities that increases a leader’s sense of confidence coupled with skills to handle new situations appropriately. This is definitely a good thing for a business organization thus making strong leadership a good thing. Strong leadership is leadership that can be relied upon. Truthfulness is an aspect that strongly relates to openness which is quite essential for there to exist any good relations in any given organization. Strong leaders are honest. They usually have the courage to communicate to their employees concerning any matter that concerns them regardless of its nature whether positive or negative (Judge, Bono, Ilies, and Gerhardt 2002, p.777). This is quite important as chances of employees being shocked with new information that concerns them and which was not communicated to them cropping are eliminated. Openness gives from leaders gives employees to seek direction on how best they can handle challenges and be able to confront risky situations. Strong leaders are thus obligated to ensure that they plan for training programs where employees can learn on how to develop their personal leadership qualities of handling new situations that may seem threatening to them in the path towards organizational success. Strong leadership is therefore a good thing for a business organization. There is good leadership and bad leadership. Bad leadership definitely leads to failure within an organization as it is self seeking. The person in the position of leadership only seeks to satisfy their own interests regardless of what the rest of the organization is subjected to be it good or bad. For good leadership all individuals in an organization are held at equilibrium. Both personal interests are valued as well those of the organization. Bad leadership does not promote cooperation in an organization as the goals themselves are not definite or something that can be targeted upon (Tittemore and James 2003, p.45). It does not form a basis under which individuals in an organization can build focus. Good leadership is strong leadership in the manner that individuals can be able to trace their path from a good organizational vision and mission to where they are headed within the organization. They can connect their responsibilities well with whatever is expected to be achieved in the organization within a specified period of time and be able to as well assess whether they efforts reflect the required outcomes. Strong leadership is therefore good for a business organization as it acts as a stepping stone for good leadership. Competition is quite a challenging aspect regarding the sustainability of a business organization. Majorly competition arises when other organizations that offer similar products and services enter the market. To counter competition strong leadership is of great importance. Leaders need to evaluate and see what really the root of the stiff competition is and develop strategies and tactics on how to counter it. Technology is understood to major source of competition. This may be in line with how goods are manufactured, processed, marketed or even how services are offered in an organization. Strong leadership comes into play as leaders need to see find ways maintaining an organization’s survival in the market as well as enhancing its competitive edge. For instance incorporating new technology in the customer service sector through the use of computers the implication herein is that the labor force will have to reduce with some people losing jobs since Computers function with greater ease, efficiency and effectiveness. In this case leaders need to know how to deal employees during this time in order to ensure that the implementation of new technology takes place appropriately considering employee interests and without portraying a bad image of making people lose jobs (Anderson and Anderson 2001, p.88). It’s crucial that a leader should communicate to employees about the new technology in a timely manner so that those who are supposed to leave they may prepare themselves without basing any fault on the organization way of leadership. From this point of view an organization is able to safeguard its position in the market due to strong leadership. Communication forms quite an important aspect within an organization. This is what determines how all activities are to be executed in an organization and the manner they are harmonized with the set goals and objectives. In line with this understanding strong leadership means good communication. The implication is that leaders are able to exercise their leadership in communication through developing better means of communicating the vision and mission of the organization to the employees (Bens 2006, p.50). Other crucial information that needs to be well passed to the members of an organization involves the amount of resources that the organization has and how it can efficiently capitalize on the same to reach its desired goals, information on employees remuneration status, information regarding changes in the organization as well as information inline with incorporation of new technology into the organization. Strong leadership efficiently and effectively ensures that the right information reaches the right people and in a timely manner hence it is a good for a business organization. Organizations are usually faced with problems time and again which necessitates intervention from leaders to seek for their solution. In line with this strong leadership plays quite an important role. It is not the responsibility of the leader in an organization to find solutions to problems all alone. A strong leader involves other members in the organization in coming up with ideas on how to tackle certain problems (Vroom and Phillip 2004, p.66). This gives the employees to develop critical thinking as well as matter of personal development and growth as far as leadership is concerned. This makes the issue of problem solving in the organization a shared responsibility whereby each contribution by every person is appreciated. Undoubtedly strong leadership turns out to be a good thing for a business organization. Any given organization desires to achieve success as well as sustainability in the future. Strong leadership creates a path towards this by bringing together thoughts of each and every member in the organization in line with their view of how success can be achieved as well as business sustainability. When employees share in their ideas and opinions with their leaders they feel valued and develop a sense of self worth. The key factor is that they develop a sense of belonging from the understanding that they too feel as being part of the decision making processes in the organization knowing that their presence in the organization and the ideas they contribute counts (Vroom and Phillip 2004, p.50). They are therefore motivated to work and do their best for the organization to achieve prosperity. Strong leadership is thus a good thing for a business organization. Strong leadership views employees as assets of an organization. It recognizes that without employees an organization is bound to experience failure (Bens 2006, p.40). It is in line with this perspective that strong leadership seeks to ensure that employees are developed in all facets beginning from making them have a sense of belong by sharing ideas with them to offering them good payments and rewards to increase their motivation (Miner 2005, p.98). The sole purpose of leaders minding about the welfare of employees is but to make employees learn and develop a new way of looking at things. When employees are motivated they tend to give their best in their work and their views and opinions can flexibly be adjusted by leaders to be aligned with what they see fit for the organization. Additionally employees become willing to participate in other organizational activities which basically involve works of charity. They not only carryout their responsibilities but they also feel that there is still more that they need to do for the organization. From this point of view it therefore becomes very easy for a leader to request for assistance from the employees in any given matter. Employees thus view every opportunity as an opportunity to learn and improve their skills. In this case strong leadership seems to be quite influential and beneficial to an organization. It is thus a good thing for a business organization. In conclusion, strong leadership should be perceived as a vital aspect as far as good performance of a business organization is concerned. Greater importance on the same should be placed on the idea that it brings members of an organization to work towards the achievement of a common mission (Judge, Bono, Ilies and Gerhardt 2002, p.771). With strong leadership an organization is guaranteed to achieve higher performance in an effective and efficient with the identification of new opportunities along the path to success through which an organization can upgrade and improve on its potential. It has been demonstrated that strong leadership influences and inspires positive actions. It is acts as a central point of lead which people can focus upon to learn and gain knowledge from for personal development and organizational development. Strong leadership is what defines a strong leader who is an individual with diverse capabilities of influencing their followers in appositive manner and towards a worthy course. Therefore a Strong leader may be understood as a person who is able recognizes what employees can do and appreciating them as a way of giving them motivation as they execute their responsibilities. Whatever leaders do, the employees are bound to emulate them thus strong leaders usually uphold morality in order for them to positively inspire their subordinates. They gain respect from employees as they uphold ethical practices in their line of duty. Additionally strong leadership has been illustrated as a way through which leaders in an organization can gain trust, commitment and loyalty from their employees without necessarily using force but walking- the- talk which is simply doing what they say they will do and not acting otherwise.
