Introduction

Organizational culture refers to the system of shared assumptions, values, and even beliefs among the stakeholders that governs behaviors of people within and outside the organization (Leyla & Demand, 2013). These share beliefs, values, and assumptions have a strong influence on the behaviors of the organization's employees, and they define how employees act, dress and even how they perform their jobs (Fernandes, 2009). An effective organizational culture is made up of certain characteristics that range in priorities from high, to medium, to low depending on their roles towards achieving the organizational goals and objectives. This paper seeks to analyze the organizational culture and values of Gaylord Palms looking for the various ways in which specific components of culture and values assist to impede the success of organizations strategic choices.

The organizational culture of the Gaylord Palms Hotel has a lot of meaning for many of its members, for example, a customer-driven culture has created a competitive advantage over other hotels thus competing favorably for both customers and employees. These cultures have created a good working environment for most of the company employees; thus, they are more motivated to work towards the achievement of the organization's goals. All company workers/stakeholders come into the organization knowing clearly that they have been chosen following their commitment to the organization's values and their ability to delivering the flawless service mission. The organizational culture of teamwork and offering flawless services at the Gaylord Palms Hotel has ensured the success of Gaylord Palms strategic choices through creating a company brand image within the labor markets that is used in an advertisement to build a strong labor pool.

What is required for an organization culture to be effective?

An organization is made up of many components and therefore for it to be effective regarding the execution of its culture, it is important that each component is in good working order. Each component must work and fit conjointly with other components so as to enable the organization to perform optimally (Dev, 2013). An organization that is aligned for excellence, those parts are made in such a way that the whole organization becomes more effective each segment.

For organizations cultures to be effective, there is a need for the organization's management to attend fully to the customers' needs and focus on the strategies that will maximize performance results. Gaylord Palms' has an effective culture that is focused on serving the customers and producing quality products thus ensuring that its objectives and goals are achieved as planned. Highly effective organizations like Gaylord Palms' places a lot of emphasis on creating a good customer relations and more importantly, they put a lot of emphasis on ensuring that their customer is satisfied. Since they know who their customers are, they put a lot of efforts in making concrete efforts in the determination and meeting the expectations of their customers and their stakeholders at large.

The structure of the organization is another important key element that plays a bigger role in ensuring the culture of the organization is effective and efficient when it comes to offering services to its customers and stakeholders at large. Optimal organizational structure involves a lot of considerations that range from the physical outlay of the organization to the policies that govern the operations of the organization. An effective organization culture requires that the structure of the organization is aligned in a way that it responds quickly to an environment of rapid change to ensure that it is moving towards meeting its missions. The structure should be in a way that it promotes good communication and the flow of information important for every employee to perform a god job and most important, it should be one that encourages wise use of knowledge, skills and abilities of its employees (Ford, Wilderom, & Caparella, 2008).

Specific characteristics/elements of Gaylord Palms' organizational culture that are most significant about ensuring the success of Gaylord Palms' strategic direction

Some of the elements/characteristics of Gaylord Palms' organizational culture that is responsible for the success of Gaylord Palms' strategic direction are like; innovation (risk-oriented), emphasis on outcomes, emphasis on people, teamwork, and aggressiveness. Gaylord Palms' places a high value on innovation thus encouraging their employees to take risks and innovate in the line with performance of their dies. Gaylord Palms' focuses more on the results and how the results are attained thus putting a lot of emphasis on this value of organizational culture and how their decisions will affect the people in their organization (Fernandes, 2009). Teamwork is the strength of the Gaylord Palms' hotel, and the organization places a lot of efforts in ensuring teamwork as opposed to individual outputs. As a result of this value, a lot of people working for this organization have a good interpersonal relationship especially amongst themselves and with their leaders thus promoting good work performance within the organization.

Most salient values of Gaylord Palms and how they values relate to the organization's culture?

Organizational values are the qualities that help to transform or change vision and missions of the company to a reality that is; values of an organization outlines corporate cultures of the organization and thus plays a very important role in everyday life of the company managers (Lauby, 2010). Some of the most salient values of Gaylord Palms' hotel are like; integrity, excellence, creativity, passion among other key values. All these values are interrelated to the culture of the Gaylord Palms' hotel thus they help the organization to maintain its quality out services and products, good customer relationship and the aspects of teamwork to ensure excellence performance of the organization (Dev, 2013).

Conclusion

The values of excellence have made everyone within the organization, and most importantly the managers to understand that they should only hire workers who are truly committed to providing flawless or legendary service. Also, it makes every stakeholder understand that the company is committed to ensuring that it holds out for talents. A strategic approach to establishing organizational culture is to start with identifying the key elements in a particular strategy and aligning these elements with the operational practices of the organization. Therefore, the first move is to articulate missions, culture, and values of the organization where all other actions and activities can be focused to identify the tactical elements of the strategy and the policies governing the operation of the workers.
