'Egg Heads by Kathryn Lopez' is an outstanding example of a paper on reproduction.
In the article, Egg Heads, the author Kathryn Lopez informs the readers about the process undertaken during egg donation. The doctor undertaking the process indicated that the process was normal and compared the emerging symptoms to those of menstruation. The practice of egg donation has become widespread and known as the act of giving the gift of life. To begin with, the applicants have to apply for the process. On acceptance as qualified donors, they are then prepped with hormones. This process stimulates the ovaries which mature into as many as possible some as much as 50. The actual process is very tiring compared to sperm donation since it can take up to 56 hours.

Despite the strenuous nature of the whole process, egg donating is quite rewarding. The donors receive an average of between $2500 and $5000 in compensation at a certain clinic. College students are known as frequent donors considering that this reward comes in handy for their tuition and additional school expenses. Thus, egg donation may seem harmless since it is a win-win situation for both parties, but it has stirred up much debate over the years. Ironically, the most vocal among the members of the debate are the feminists who believe that an egg donation is a form of prostitution. Such claims have not deterred the donors. In fact, egg donation is still on the rise. It has even brought about the process of egg freezing. Motherhood is continually reduced to a good time activity of leisure as professor Rothman explains (Lopez 163).

The author argues that egg donation and other forms of reproductive technology are harmful to society. The main reason such technologies and egg donation tend to bring about damaging effects on families, the bodies of young women and human life as a whole (Lopez, 151). The author resonates that these young women fail to understand the medical consequences the whole process has on their bodies. The process could harm their reproductive organs permanently or even lead to the premature end of their monthly menstruation. The process could also be a breeding ground for cancer of the reproductive system. However, the donors are highly motivated by the chance of easy money that they get.

This change of the natural act of conception seems to be deemed the traditional ideas of a family. The author indicates that a significant number of women (15%) were already using various assisted reproductive forms of technology (Lopez 152). The process could increase leading to the increased improvement of the overall human race through the process of selective breeding. The process could also increase the cases of children born without any legal parents (Lopez 153). This is among the many cases the author mentions proving that egg donation is not as simple as it seems. In one situation, the child in the case question was labeled as no one’s child considering that neither of the two in the court was the legal parents. Thus, as Lopez reveals, egg donation is rewarding for the parties involved despite the resulting consequences that may arise for the donor.
