"Management of Healthcare Organizations" is an engrossing example of a paper on the health system.

1.TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

Supply: The University Memorial Hospital (UMH) lacks an adequate supply of daycare facilities. The present daycare facility is too expensive and inconvenient.  The employees are forced to take-offs to care for their children.

Social-economic environment: The daycare facility is too expensive that the medical employees cannot afford. The daycare facility is also located far from the hospital which further leads to additional costs when seeking the service.  

2.IT’S ALIVE

The University family Medical Center (FMC) employs bureaucratic management. The management should, however, change to a matrix organizational structure. Matrix structure would incorporate a higher span of control by the onsite supervisors.

Since the structure employs equal sharing of power, the issue of centralization by the top administrator; Mr. Blau, would be minimized leading to effectiveness.

Matrix structure incorporates a flat chain of command whereby the employees would report to the onsite supervisors for directions. The structure prevents decentralization of power (from Mr. Blau), hence the system would have a flat hierarchy (Malhotra, 2009).

3.DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Strengths: Dependability- it is the only public hospital in Midwestern town that serves as the primary health facility in the area. Specialization- UMH provides specialized health services to the community. Capacity- the hospital employs over 4000 employees and also admits close to 571 inpatients.

Weaknesses: Poor management- the planning manager has failed to fix the day-care issues despite numerous approaches by the employees. Poor employee support- the hospital provides inefficient daycare facilities to its employees (Malhotra, 2009).  

The opportunities-The institution is a referral hospital which provides specialized health services. Training- the hospital educates students and other healthcare professionals on healthcare matters. Research- the hospital conducts advanced research on developing issues.

Expansion- the hospital plans to build a new day-care facility to expand its support services.

Threats-Demotivation; the hospital faces the challenge of employee demotivation due to a lack of effective support (Sakharkar, 2008).  Congestion-the daycare faces the challenge of congestion due to increases in family sizes.
