"Body, Brain, and Health" is a great example of a paper on the health system. In this chapter, the significant aspects of life that make human beings grow are put into perspective. Nevertheless, the author of the book has highlighted that human growth is a complex process influenced by genes and the environment (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p128). Besides, the chapter depicts that the human body is a conglomeration of building blocks that makes life possible. Building blocks are constituents that make growth possible have been depicted to be essential in every stage of human life.

The first building block essential in human life is the endocrine system. The endocrine system, or rather, the hormonal system, consists of hormonal glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p129). The most crucial hormone depicted by Carol, the author, is the pituitary gland. This hormone is responsible for the growth and control of the other endocrine glands. It is important to note that any interference to this hormone brings abnormality in growth. For example, an individual called Yao Defens that overgrew his weight due to a growing tumor on his pituitary gland.

Another important hormone is the one produced by the thyroid gland. This hormone is responsible for physical growth and the establishment of the nervous system. Nevertheless, various hormones are responsible for multiple bodily functions in the body, and their control is by the endocrine system. The other building block in the human bodies involves the brain and the nervous system. This system is so complex and consists of the brain as its central organ. Nevertheless, this system is imperative in the growth process.

Neurons are also essential in the growth of the human body, and as a building block, it is responsible for the other systems in the body (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p132).It is important to note that growth lifespan development is essential in the identification of the health model. Health, in this instance, as depicted in the chapter, is a lifelong process and is determined by environmental and genetic factors. Furthermore, the transitions in health can either bring beneficial or destructive actions to a human being.

The infant is another concept of growth elaborate in the chapter (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p33). The chapter elaborates on the different ideas that are presented by an infant. For instance, the brain is taken as the most developed part of an infant, but its continued growth is done after birth. Besides, also, neurons grow exponentially as the child grows. The connection of an infant’s neurons is significantly less than that of a grown child. The growth of an infant is another idea depicted by the chapter; it is essential to note that the initial months of a child are characterized by significant growth.

They gain weight and height at high rates (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p134). Nonetheless, if a child is exposed to unfavorable environmental conditions, it is bound to have stunted growth. It is a characteristic where the infants do not show any changes in either weight or height. However, if all conditions are favorable, the infant is bound to grow significantly. Infants pass various stages when they grow up. They must turn into young children, then go into puberty, then enter into adulthood.

In all these stages, as the chapter depicts, there are significant changes in behavior and growth. For instance, for individuals in the adolescent stage, there are so many hormones present and brain transition (Sigelman & Rider, 2017, p142). Delinquencies committed by these teens characterize this aspect of brain transition. Nevertheless, in adulthood, these individuals are responsible individuals who are experiencing maturation and hence have sensible acts.
