"Healthcare Policy that Needs to be Changed" is an outstanding example of a paper on the health system. Healthcare is among the highest economic and social problems facing American people today. The increasing cost of health insurance is affecting the livelihoods of the population in various ways. Inability to pay essential medical care is an issue affecting both the uninsured and those with health insurance as well (Ekman, 2004).

Healthcare insurance

Health care insurance in America is a key aspect to the successful provision of sustainable health services to the people. However, the health insurance cover has become a source of contention not only to the citizens but to the government, as well. According to health care trends, in 2012 almost 46% of adults of ages nineteen to sixty-four did not possess the insurance for the whole year and 30% of the citizens were underinsured (John, 2014).  Health care insurance has greatly affected the country's expenditure which has exceeded two trillion dollars annually. This insurance policy needs to be changed to give space to every citizen to have access to medical care (John, 2014). This is because 41% of adults argued that they faced hard times paying bills and had to regulate their way of life to afford medical bills. In addition, 50% of bankruptcies among citizens are due for payment of the health care insurance fee. Middle-income families earning between $30,000 and $75,000, said they are presently undergoing a serious problem in paying for health insurance (Baicker, 2008). On the issue, most citizens' still supports the single-payer insurance programme and opposes Obama care.

Health care insurance is, however, supported by major political figures who argue that rising insurance cover is the only way to enhance quality health care services. For instance, chronic diseases are the biggest and costly aspect of health programmes which makes it insurance hard to cover the treatments. In 2007, 75% of the total healthcare budget went to treatments of chronic diseases including asthma and diabetes (Thomas, 2010).

Conclusion

Health insurance policy should be reviewed to enable every citizen to afford the services, with the escalating cost of living. However, it is challenging for the state to lower the health insurance fee with rising costs of treatment of chronic diseases.
