"Lifestyle and Behavior Change – Stages of Changes and Motivational" is a wonderful example of a paper on addiction. A human’s complicated lifestyle has health constraints that require both selves and assisted effort to eradicate. Behavior change of the victims is vital in controlling adverse effects of factors associated with lifestyle and routine. Based on research, a considerable number of the world’s population engage in drug abuse and addiction. Tobacco smoking is a causative factor for a number of health constraints including lung cancer, low children birth weights, respiratory infections, and other social dilemmas such as divorce and poverty.

However, through interviews and one-on-one sessions with both addicted and non-addicted victims, they obtain important psychological and emotional comfort and support trying to abstain from smoking or address addiction effects. In some instances, it requires that victims seek private consolation sessions with medical practitioners because of a high likelihood of their stigmatization. The healthcare practitioner should take the initiative to explain to the patient what impacts, both negative and positive (if any), emerge from tobacco smoking such as heart disease.

Usually, this should not be an opportunity for the doctor to harass or ambush the victim. The patient should feel relaxed and submissive to the doctor’s instructions. He/she should be willing to share his/her story concerning the behavior in which change is tedious openly. On his/her part, the doctor should express empathy rather than accusations at the patient. He/she should ensure that listening instead of lecturing dominates their session. Proper listening implies that the doctor understands the victim’s reasons why and how he/she intend to quit smoking.

Among the viable strategies is to improve physical activity as suggested by Mientka (1). It shall precede offering of advice and support whenever necessary. Moreover, it is important for the doctor to understand the stages of change the patient is undergoing, as at that time.  Participatory dialogue assists in understanding the patient’s state.
