            The three main parts of the nervous system include the sensory portion, the central nervous system, and the motor portion. These systems coordinate together to maintain a constant environment for human beings. The sensory portion of the nervous system works to detect the surroundings in which the body is present. An example of the eyes can be taken which are used to transfer the visual signals from the surroundings to the brain. The brain then works as an interpreter and signals back to the eye through which human beings are able to visualize their environment. The brain plays an important role in carrying out the necessary impulses to the motor portion of the body. This motor portion acts in a similar fashion so as to carry out the necessary activities. Moreover, another complex system known as the autonomic nervous system works at the subconscious level by performing the tasks which are important for survival. The brain signals to this portion of the nervous system so that the glands and organs of the body work in accordance with the requirements. For example, the brain may receive an impulse that would detect the decreased levels of oxygen in the blood and it would thus counteract in order to bring homeostasis. It would send signals to the respiratory center which would increase the rate of respiration and thus increase the level of oxygen in the body.
            All the organs of the body coordinate with each other so as to maintain constant conditions within the body. The nervous system plays an important role in the maintenance of nearly constant conditions.
