"How Does Becoming Blind Affect Other Senses" is a wonderful example of a paper on ophthalmology. Nearly all people have heard the notion that blind people have a better hearing as compared to those who have their sights probably as compensation for their incapacity to see. A number of researches have clearly illustrated that those who are blind have much better hearing, but according to these researches, the hearing capacity is better if the affected individuals became blind when still young. Despite the fact that these researches have been conducted, they have not provided very accurate findings and that is why to a number of individuals, the subject is just a myth.

However, there are a number of reasons why this may be so, for instance, it is stated that the blind may have better hearing capacities because a number of the neurons which are involved in insight might be made useful in other areas like hearing (Bowles, n.d.). It should be noted that the brain is not static as it is perceived to be.

When individuals have sight problems, it is believed that they will tend to pay additional attention and it is believed that this is what makes them see well. Similarly, it is also believed that there are some cells that are not unused up, and in the events that there are no repairs needed within a given area, the saved energy will be applied somewhere else, for instance, an individual having sight might not pay attention very closely sounds, however, individuals who are blind will pay much attention.

Similarly, individuals who are blind highly depend on hearing as well as touch, and therefore, they are left with no alternatives but to be more attentive than those who are in possession of their sights. Those who are blind should have the knowledge of their surroundings by ensuring that they listen closely since they do not have eyesight hence they remember sounds rather than sights. As noted, there are no enough scientific proofs to show the correlation between blindness and enhanced eyesight but it is just a myth.
