Importance of Accountability Essay

Accountability and communication are essential elements of the military. In my “Importance of Accountability Essay,” we will discuss in length about its relevance in contemporary society. With efficient correspondence, everyone in the military, regardless of rank, will be on the same page. This fact means that there will be proper organization among many other matters going smoothly. The United States Army is an essential arm of our country's defense. Accountability and correspondence have made it was it is today. If there were poor communication or lousy delegation, vital information would hardly flow smoothly from upper to the lower ranks. For instance, how would knowledge pass from the Chief of Command to a chain of Non-Commissioned Officers to Soldiers if the correspondence platform was not improved? If there are no apparent means of delivering such information, lives would be at stake, missions would be destroyed, and everyday correspondence from upper to lower levels would be conflicted. And in such a situation, there would hardly be accountability.

Information, regardless of how minute it is, is always vital. For instance, if any member of the armed forces went out to have fun and fails to communicate according to the established policies regarding correspondence, they would be putting their life in jeopardy. The responsibilities of a soldier are simple, yet communication, as easy as it may seem, is the most complicated part of military operations. If something terrible happens to the soldier while out, who will be held responsible? They never communicated to their battle buddies and, more importantly, the NCO; therefore, no one will ever know if anything terrible happens because they never spoke. When one's location is known to other soldiers, it would be easier for them to maneuver and find them if anything goes wrong when they are outside. No soldier desires to be a victim of an unfortunate circumstance when things do not go according to plan, and that is why it is integral to alert someone when going out.

Effectiveness of Communication: A War Example

People are not familiar with the advantages of accountability, more so during the war. It is through correspondence that there is perfect accountability, and that is why it is an important element that every person must know about. Military organizations value correspondence, especially during war. War is all about planning and execution, and all these stages involve communication and accountability. When there is effective communication between all the hierarchies of the military, people can plan war and implement strategies effectively. They will know when and where to target. That is why every person in an organization needs to conform to healthy correspondence and liability. Without a doubt, proper correspondence is important to forming a great relationship.

How can you understand another person’s sentiments when you don’t have good communication? When you have proper correspondence with people in your life, you easily comprehend what they desire, need, and expect from you. Also, you will know their capabilities and many more aspects of their lives. Remember that it does not only apply to the individuals that are close to you who know you pretty well but strangers you meet for the first moment and even your work colleagues. Being part of the army has taught me to be responsible, and these elements form the biggest part of my opinion. Over the past few months, I have been handling numerous problems, both physically and mentally, and I have been facing a difficult moment to have proper liability. All this is because of my lack of responsibility.

Although I feel this way, it does not mean that I have the perfect excuse to slack on being responsible. Every Private E-2 soldier ought to be responsible in every scenario regardless of whether they are in uniform or not. This is one of the most important values taught in the military – being responsible. The military is not all about giving orders; soldiers ought to have some sense of personal control over their mission performance. Hence, they will start doing things out of their desires and upliftment instead of just abiding by orders from above. This ideology is one of the most natural ways for any soldier to adopt responsibility. Therefore, it means that they are going to have perfect accountability and significant correspondence regardless of the military group they represent at any moment.

According to certain studies, which have been conducted multiple times on different subjects, it has been suggested that soldiers deliver better results when they have control over work performance. Therefore, they are going to have better persistence in accomplishing their tasks, better mental health, and even more elevated problem-solving skills. If you want to become part of the US Army, you better work on:

  • Accountability: If you think that liability is all about keeping track of other people and even legal documents and other material alone, you are wrong. If you have ideal accountability, and you are taking care of money, you will have a proper account of how money was utilized by checking out the account transactions.
  • Responsibility: There is no way that you are going to make it through deployment alive if you are not responsible. One of the riskiest things about irresponsible traits is that a soldier can risk another person's life. And since it is the army, where looking out for one another is important every time, you will hardly make it.

There is a way that you can improve each of the above elements and make everything good. Everybody wants to know more about their surroundings, and that is a good thing since curiosity brings interest. You can improve accountability in numerous ways:

  • One of them is via having every person’s number.
  • You can even create a logbook that individuals sign whenever they are going somewhere for easier traceability and good records.
  • Another good way of improving liability is the buddy system. This ascertains that you know where everyone else is at any time.

I think the primary reason that we have the element of liability in every organization is so we can go home on time, and we stay safe. Also, if something were to happen and I get into trouble, someone can easily get to me. Having a cell phone means that anyone can reach me at any moment, so I am always easily accessible.

Communication and Accountability Play a Huge Role

How does correspondence affect accountability? Good question deserving of a comprehensive answer. If you are accountable, you will always have the responsibility in mind meaning that you will work hard to ascertain that everything works out. Also, although it is challenging to have complete accountability when you do, you will never experience any problems of worrying about what you were supposed to do. This way, you will always be aware of the whereabouts of your colleagues such that when they are missing, you are the first to notice.

Imagine being a leader, in charge of a large group, and you are now responsible enough to know if someone is missing. That would be detrimental to your follower’s progress and impact them negatively. Also, it would mean that you are a poor leader. Therefore, adopting the right discipline that hones your accountability and proper communication qualities is very important. One way of showing that you are responsible is to recall to PMCS your automobile before heading for a mission. This activity is one of the most basic exhibitions of responsibility. And if you think taking shortcuts is the ideal way of doing this, then you are even asserting your irresponsible behavior and lack of liability even more. In case your automobile fails while you are on a mission, then it means you are risking the lives of the entire convoy.

Responsibility is one of the most important aspects of being a soldier, and it ought to be used in every circumstance. Certain tasks as basic as PMCSing an automobile ought to be mandatory and obvious. And it is not only about PMCSing, but waking up and making your bed, having time in the morning to prepare for your first formation, and many more other things happening in the military. Imagine not being in an appropriate uniform, and you are a soldier. It would be a disgrace! If you are taking care of all your military responsibilities without being reminded or followed up in any way, then you are accountable and responsible. Accountability is a responsibility imposed by a lawful authority for keeping good records.

If you want to know the relevance of answerability, think about the business environment. After all, what is the essence of doing business? When you do not show up on time in your business, you lose time. You could have been working on something productive, and since you were late arriving at your working station, you never completed anything on time. Considering you were working in an organization that depends on everybody's input, whoever lags slows down the entire process. Therefore, a chain reaction happens that leads to low productivity, and to think it all boils down to a few instances of poor organization is quite unfortunate.

Accountability Means Proper Protection and Security

In the military, accountability makes it easy to know the location of weapons. When you are in leadership, liability means that you are always conscious of your actions and the consequences of your activity. Of course, in the working environment, some of these consequences involve loss of remuneration, loss, or rank and loss of a job. If you affirm that you are going to work on something, you have to do it by every means necessary because there are dire consequences of a failure to do so. Also, you ought to keep your word. Individuals that do not keep their word exhibit irresponsible behavior and make people realize that you are not reliable at all. And when you display such behavior, everyone will lose confidence in you, and you will hardly get someone confiding in you about their problems. Another consequence of doing something wrong and fail to be accountable is losing your position or even get a stern warning. Whenever you make a mistake or do something wrong, if the avenue is right, you can make the necessary corrections.

You can make numerous mistakes when getting accountability through a variety of ways:

  • Lacking a muster sheet for keeping tabs on everything.
  • Failing to have time on the muster that everybody ought to muster at.
  • Lacking a secondary muster spot if there are issues when mustering at the usual site.

It is always advisable to have a few people assist you in maintaining proper accountability so that you do not have a problem following up on every single individual. You can implement certain strategies to ascertain everyone is aware of when to muster. You can facilitate this by calling, putting up a schedule, communicating the previous day, or sending a text message. Any instance you are releasing people, inform them on whatever has come up such that they are aware of the right location the following day. Regardless of the direction you take, better answerability and correspondence is always ideal for proper organization. In my brief career as part of the United States Army, I have realized the relevance of accountability and correspondence and how it affects my professional career.

Soldiers mostly base their lives on the relevance of liability, and when you are working with another soldier in another unit, it is integral to know that they hold these qualities. Accountability means more as a United States soldier as everyone in the army is responsible for the freedom of our country. That is why I am grateful for the encounters I have had and the ones that are going to come throughout my military career. If you do not have proper liability, you are going to suffer from the consequences. Hence, adequate accountability and communication can keep everybody safe.
