Because terrorism is a worldwide issue, the main problem facing the people responsible for making policies is a way on how to exploit international cooperation as well as support, without overly compromising vital American national security welfares.

Effects of terrorism on American national securityThe terrorism threat in the US remains a major problem even though there have been law enforcement actions undertaken as well as having major legislative initiatives on counterterrorism. Reviews in recent months indicate that terrorist attack fears in America are very high, which is not surprising at all. Many Americans believe that an attack by terrorists is quite likely to happen in few months, with most of them seeing ISIS as the main threat to national security (Perl, R. 2006)..Watson, D. (2002) says that, both terrorist timing and selection of the target can have an effect on the interests of the US in places stretching from commerce preservation to non-proliferation of nuclear to the peace process in the Middle East.

Due to their main objective to defeat secular governments in specific nations with huge Moslem populaces, these groups are big threats to the US objectives on foreign policy. The security department across the federal government, in association with private and public sectors have been working together to fight terrorism (Taylor, E. 2005). Since 9/11, they have worked together in order to come up with new security measures to defend against vigorous threats as well as minimizing the risks that come with terrorism.

These measures also help in maximizing the capability to respond and recover form terrorist attacks and disasters (Smith, J. A. 2010). According to Perl, R. (2006), two of the most applied solutions to terrorism are security in public places and the application of Diplomacy Engagement. Security in public places has been increased areas such as airports, during sporting events, in government buildings, as well as conventions. In the modern day, everyone entering a sports arena is subject to a security search as a precaution.

In airports, individuals should not take water bottles onto the planes for example. Furthermore, there more security personnel at these places than it was evident in some years back. Diplomacy engagement involves the usage of diplomatic ways to aid generate a worldwide anti-terror alliance. Perl, R. (2006), states that Diplomacy Engagement is a preferable method of dealing with terrorism. Diplomacy was a major factor, which led to the composition of the coalition led by the US against the Taliban in recent years.

It might not be successful every time especially against well-drilled terrorists but it is a highly effecting solution generally. This is because in several incidences, measures of diplomacy as seen as least likely to make conflicts bigger and consequently tried first. The media and public diplomacy can aid rally the opinion of the public in the US to pressure the government in taking necessary action against terrorism (Skilla, C. n.d.). ConclusionTerrorism represents an ongoing threat to the American National security department and the federal department as a whole.

In responding to the threat, the department has come up with a broad-based counterterrorism program. This program bases on strong investigations that interrupt the activities of the terrorists as well as offering effective warnings. Although the approaches of the department have resulted to successes, the nature of the threats posed by the terrorists needs the department’s abilities to be refined frequently. They should also be continually adapted in a bid to come up with operational responses when called upon.
