The FDA role as an agency includes approving drugs for use that have gone rigors test and have been prove safe for human consumption just as it has done for a cardiovascular drug Dronedarone (Multaq) which will now be used fro the management of arrythmisias (atrial fibrillations and atrial flutter).

This is a disease of the cardiovascular system and the heart in particular.Cardiovascular SystemThe physiological system under discussion in this article is the cardiovascular system. In general, the cardiovascular system is the main element that is concerned with the transportation of substances around the body and hence enhancing the exchange process. Substances like nutrients wastes, gases- oxygen and carbon dioxide are passed across the cells and the cell function is sustained (Marieb & Hoehn 2007).

The cells form the body tissues while the tissues constitute organs and organs form the organ systems. The Normal Physiology and AnatomyThe heart is cone shaped and lies on the side of the diaphragm inclined to the right side (shoulder) and having the widest part upwards. Its about the size of a fist roughly 9cm in width and 12 cm long. The muscles provide the force of pumping blood as it's the biological pump pericardium covers the whole heart. Heart muscles are specially designed for the pumping purpose and are called cardiac muscles.

The muscles are striated and connected to form almost one block termed syncytium. The heart is divided into right and left chambers and further into two auricles and two ventricles. They are used for transporting blood away and to the heart. Arties carry blood away while veins carry blood to the heart. Normal vessels have both circular and radial muscles.

The inner side is covered by three layers tunica. The blood vessels in normal working are elastic.Comparison of Dronedarone with other Drugs in UseDronedarone is a new antiarrythmic drug which is a non iodinated synthetic derivative of amiodarone. It has demonstrated electrophysiology patterns as compared to other drugs like amiodarone and has an equivalent efficacy in alleviation of symptoms of ventircualr and atrial fibrialtions and atrial flutter. Other drugs used for the same purpose are amiodarone, lignocaine, quinidine, lidocaine and verapamil among others (Hohnloser et al 2009).

Amiodarone is a Potassium channel blocker and thus slows the rate of heart pulse. Quinidien on the other hand depresseess the phase 4 depolarization and slows conduction of impulse via the atrial, ventricular and purkinje cells hence results in prolonged QRS phase of heart beat. Dronedarone is also a Potassium channel blocker. By this means, the contraction is reduced because, refractory period is prolonged and the automaticity of Sino atrial node and atrivetricular node are depressed. The development of the drug dronedarone was to try and solve the problem of the side effects that are associated with the widely used amiodarone and its troublesome drug interactions and the complex dosage regime.

Basically dronedarone does not contain iodine moiety and hence little or not thyroid or pulmonary toxicity (Hohnloser et al 2009). ConclusionThe imoplication of the approval of dronedarone for use is that there will be reduced hospitalization cases due to the efficency of the drug and elination of other adverse side effects. The future use of the drug is bound to increase due to the positive approval of the drug by FDA. The drug alleviates symptoms of arrythmias without causing complications of thyroid or pulmonary origin.

The dosage regime is also simple to administer and due to these simple and efficient ways the future use of the drug will increase and may replace the widely used Amiodarone.
