I took that to heart as I did everything my father told me, because there is nothing I wanted more than to become like him. However, it was not until I moved to the US did the reality of his wisdom hit home, and I realized that my ability to survive in a strange land would be directly proportional to my capacity for adapting. My parents are medics; my father is a doctor and my mother a clinician and I believe my desire to become a pharmacologist was informed by my admiration for both of them.

From an early age, I knew I had to succeed in school to achieve my dream so I worked extra hard to stand out both in academic and co-curricular activities. I was awarded the best student award in Shanghai’s 54 High school during my freshman year and when I moved to Indiana I was allowed to skip the Algebra 2 in my sophomore year and still managed to pass the next stage. In my free time, I have volunteered at both Texas children hospital and Carmel library back in china so I could acquire experience in real life medical scenario and interpersonal communication.

In sports I was awarded third prize for shot-put during the sports day in the year 2011 as well a second prize for free style in the same year. Largely, my achievements however modest they have been in part driven by my pursuit for excellence or at least the closest I can get to it since I was aware of my dream career would place on me both academically and personally. My dream career of being a pharmacologist requires that I excel in both social nd academic pursuits since I will be working closely with people to alleviate their pain.

Therefore, I know that with every social skill I acquire and every new friend I make I am preparing myself to become a competent and sociable pharmacologist capable of dealing with clients both from a professional and personal level. I am aware of the fact that a medical
