Terrorism-criminal justice Terrorism refers to the use of threats to intimi the victims. This is usually done so as to coerce people towards a particular political, religion or cultural ideology. In Avner Cohen book, The Worst-Kept Secret, the author demonstrates how Israel has managed to stay with a bomb in an effort to stop terror attacks against the country. The author argues on both the benefits and flaws in the country possessing a nuclear weapon. Israel possession of nuclear weapons is shrouded in secretes and there are no clear regulations or policies indicating the country’s possession of these weapons.

The conversation on this topic has largely been avoided and there is little understanding among the public on this issue. Amimut refers to the Israel official policy of concealing information on nuclear weapons adopted in 1969 in the Nixon-Meir deal. Amimiut is a Hebrew term that means ambiguity or opacity. Amimut evolved out of various decisions that were continuously implemented due to strategic and political needs of the country. In the mid 1970s Shalhevveth Freier and the team of Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) formed the rules of the national doctrine on nuclear policy.

The reasons for the country’s possession of nuclear were varied. Some leaders were of the opinion that the country’s possession of nuclear is a symbol of the country having a weapon of last result. Other leaders were of the opinion that Israel should not be the first country in the Middle East to be in possession of nuclear. During the Six-Day War, the then chief of Mossad, General Meir Amit was of the opinion that if Israel had nuclear weapons, this would act as an incentive for Soviet Union to supply Egypt with nuclear weapons.

Israel was also forced to make a stance of not been a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

This stance was because NPT was against the countries acquired nuclear capabilities. NPT also lacked adequate guarantees against protection by nuclear possessing countries such as the Soviet Union. Despite the heavy thought of the advantage of nuclear weapons in avoiding terror attacks. Conventional weapons were found to be effective in the Six-Day war. The Fissile Material Cut-Off Treaty is an arms control non-proliferation measure that is non-discriminatory and aims at stopping further production of fissile material to be used in weapons.

Israel views international attention as a distraction on the threat of Iran nuclearization. The external threat from its Arab neighbors especially Iran are what led Israel to have nuclear weapons. Unless there is durable peace in the Middle East, Israel government will continuously justify its possession of nuclear weapons and possible require to upgrade them. In the Regional level, Israel opposition to FMCT is based on:FMCT allows for both operation of uranium enrichment plants for peaceful purpose.

However, this would not guarantee that there is no diversion of fissile material for weapons.Israel also insists that the only way towards disarmament in the Middle East is where peace is the primary driver and not the nuclear issue.Nuclear was primarily introduced to Israel because of the desire of the country to have ultimate security and to scare away any potential threat. Ultimately Israel tries to have monopoly in possession of nuclear in the Middle East. The nuclear is kept largely for security reasons only.
