En la mitologa encontramos referencias importantes al papel que desempeaban las mujeres en la antigua Grecia. En la Teogona de Hesodo, del siglo VIII a.C., 'se relatan mitos sobre el conflicto entre divinidades femeninas y masculinas, Gea y Urano, Rea y Cronos, hasta que llega Zeus, quien logra romper esa relacin y situarse como patriarca hegemnico del Olimpo. En torno a Zeus encontramos, en distintas posiciones subalternas, a las principales divinidades femeninas de la religin griega: Atenea y Artemisa, las diosas vrgenes, y Hera, Afrodita, Demter y Hestia, las diosas madres' (Martino, G. de, Bruzzese, M. 'Las Filsofas: las mujeres protagonistas en la historia del pensamiento'. 1996. Pg. 18). As, vemos como las diosas, que en un principio ostentaban un poder similar al de las deidades masculinas, quedan relegadas a las funciones de madres y magas-hechiceras.
Otra de las referencias ms antiguas sobre el papel de las mujeres en la antigua Grecia la encontramos en las epopeyas homricas del siglo VIII a.C. Tanto la Ilada como la Odisea nos presentan numerosos ejemplos de los roles femeninos de la poca. ...
