He was sure that as long as the jacket is with him he wouldn't have success in anything and as he wasn't going to get rid of it he was destined to bad and unfortunate life.
The author has a negative attitude towards sexuality. This can be seen in the third, fourth and fifth paragraphs of the essay, where she tells about "the magazines trumpeting sexuality" and describes the details of the ads. She is against replacing romance with sexuality and this can be seen in the fifth paragraph where she tells that what we see in those magazines is a marketing invention and that "after the photo shoot was over" all the romance disappears. ...Show more

Summary

In the ninth and tenth paragraphs of the story the narrator points out some elements which give us the feeling that he is maturing. For example, in the ninth paragraph speaking about the jacket the author mentions, "I wore that thing for three years until the sleeves grew shot and my forearms stuck out like the necks of turtles"…
