However, amidst the positive aspects of the story, this literary piece should also be criticized for its weaknesses. Even though Mary lives a quite interesting life, the whole plot becomes quite dull because of the entirely depressing story. From her birth, it seems as if the main character has never experienced any good thing in life which is quite unfair and even unrealistic. The excessive use of vulgarity in some of the parts of the book makes it somehow unappealing to me. Mary's equation of physical intimacy with love is very much irrational for a woman with a strong feminist perspective.
