Due to infertility problems the no. of children in the population is also declining which has changed the population from young to old. This trend demands important changes in the social planning agenda of the country. Another requirement for the social planning division is to address the trend of migration of the ageing and after retirement population to the coastal towns. It is important to address the economic, health and social issue of this ageing population and to understand both the ways in which older people can contribute more to the region’s success, and where and when they need to be reached, supported and included, now and in the future.

Chapter 1 describes the purpose and ‘research question’ and then explain, in a summary form the structure and content of the dissertation as a whole including, rationale for choosing the topic, analytical method and the main findings of the study.
