One day I asked my mother why some people lived in poverty almost through out the time that I had known them. She told me that all people can not be equal in the society. There happens to be many economic differences that she informed me I would understand better as I grew up. However, she also told me that in spite of the problems that some people faced, there were chances of improvement in their quality of life if the country’s economy could be managed effectively. She told me that those who were economically well up failed to help those with economic problems for them to accomplish economic well being.

At one time I thought that if the resources could be shifted from the people who had them to the poor, the wealthy too would need help from others who were better of economically. When I asked my economics teacher regarding such a measure to make the poor to access basic necessities and improving their standards of living, he told me that to understand such an issue, I needed to study economics to be competent in making important decisions that could help people out of the economic difficulties they faced in life.

The thought of being in a position to help people to overcome their economic problems interested me so much. More over, even though my parents could pay my school fees comfortably, I had realized that they could not afford some of the commodities that could have improved our standards of living. I visualized myself being in a position to improve my family’s economic welfare. I had the conviction that if I could help others after becoming a professional in economics, I would also help my parents to accomplish their business goals for better standards of living.
