Reflection upon the I have learnt a lot in this Things that I have learnt include but are not limited to writing a research paper with due consideration of and attention towards all formalities involved therein and most importantly, making it free of plagiarism so that the work maintains its originality and is appreciated for its genuine authorship. The research particulars I have learnt to write include the prospectus, chronological bibliography, and referencing styles. Citing is an art that needs to be mastered in order to maintain the originality of the paper.

One has to know when to use direct quotes and when and how to paraphrase the original text.The text book was not easy to understand. I had to consult a number of sources in order to comprehend the concepts presented in the text book. Online sources like webibliography were particularly useful in clearing my ambiguities and misconceptions regarding writing. The Writing Center provides an individual with the opportunity to attend a conference online in which he/she can have one-to-one conversation with a writing expert on a piece of expository writing.

I find report writing a very time consuming activity. A lot of time goes into deciding the subject of writing and brainstorming so as to acquire a whole range of ideas before the writing can actually be commenced. I find this exercise very lethargic. The process of writing was particularly difficult for me because English is not my mother tongue. It gets very hard to organize wild thoughts into a coherent argument when it is to be done in a second language. Therefore, in an attempt to improve the quality of my work, I would ask my friends to have a look at it and point out the mistakes before I forwarded the final version to the mentor for grading.

In addition to that, I used to communicate with my friends in no other language but English all the time with a view to achieving fluency in speaking English and becoming confident with its use in speech and in writing. Now, that I have been through this class, I notice a lot of improvement in my writing skills. Although my current self-grading i.e. 4 and 5 out of 10 is remarkably low, yet it is much better than the scores of 1 and 2 which used to reflect my competence in writing before I took this course.

I am positive that a little practice every day would drastically improve these scores. I have organized the improvements I now notice in my writing ability after this course below:I maintain the lines of communication with my colleagues so as to establish the goals of mutual interest with minimal inconvenience. Effective communication is essential in team work. I organize the report chronologically into abstract, executive summary, introduction, methodology, findings, interpretation and discussion of results, conclusions and recommendations.

I am fully competent in the use of MLA, APA, Harvard, Chicago and Turabian referencing styles. My attempt to increase my English vocabulary has improved my paraphrasing skills. Overall, this course has shaped me as a writer.
