Community Writing Part Figure below shows a picture of my favorite spot within the community. This picture is that ofa bike path and I consider it the most attractive of all bike paths that I have come across. This is attributed to the fact that this path is apparently scenic and attractive. The appearance of the bike path as illustrated by the picture reveals that it is well maintained. More attractive though are the features of the path. The trees on each side of the path give it a very good view. The trees also make the path to have features of wildlife and makes bike riders and people who walk along the path to have an adventurous experience. Figure 1: Bike Path The greenery of the path as revealed by the grass on both of its sides represents a well conserved environment. Looking at the picture, it is almost impossible to fail noticing how smooth the terrain of the path is. It is this smoothness which makes walking or riding along the path to be both relaxing and ambient. The freshness of the atmosphere along the path is depicted by the surrounding vegetation which makes the path a place where an individual will always long to walk or ride along. The safety that bikers are accorded in riding along the path is demonstrated by the fact that the path is relatively far from the main highway. Figure 2 below is that of a wall which I consider to create a need to do something about it. The wall which is located in semi-busy part within town is seen by a considerable number of people who pass by it. The people who pass along the wall must consider it a significant part of the town. As depicted by the picture, the wall is not exactly appealing. This is demonstrated by the graffiti on the wall which is not artistic at all. It is because of this that I consider that the wall must be repainted so that it would be appealing. Figure 2: Wall On a closer look on the picture, it is realized that some parts of it are actually falling down. This leads to the conclusion that if the wall cannot be repaired and repainted, them it needs to be removed. The current situation of this wall clearly gives the town a bad image. This is so especially for visitors and tourists who would be in town for the first time. Additionally, this wall evidently shows that a lot less is being done to improve the image of the town. The recommendation for making changes or improvements on the wall is therefore basically aimed at making it appealing and interesting to walk along as opposed to its current unattractive look. Part 2 Figure 3 below shows a picture of a Macbook Pro. This product is a cultural artifact which has a lot to describe about in terms of appearance and function. Additionally the cultural artifact has a cultural significance which is worth noting. Macbook Pro is a product of Apple Inc. and was first manufactured in 2006 (Siglin 48). Its good appearance and reliable functionalities makes it to be one of the most popular of the company’s products and brands. The first thing to note on the appearance of the product is its portability. The early 21st century cultural artifact is made and composed of an aluminum casing which is white in color. On the back middle part of the artifact’s screen is an Apple logo. This is designed to illustrate the brand and the owner company of the product. The appearance of Macbook Pro also reveals its sleekness. This is a special design which was created by the company’s expertise with an aim of achieving simplicity and yet retaining its functionality. It is the attractive design which makes Macbook Pro to stand out as the most popular of laptop computers which were manufactured early in the 21st century. The functions that this artifact offers to the user include processing and storing data and information. This includes word processing through the application software which is installed in the artifact. The uniqueness of this artifact is achieved through the creativity and innovativeness in technology which allowed Apple to achieve high processor speeds and large memory capacity. More importantly, the cultural artifact has its own Mac Operating System which defines its functionality. Figure 3: Macbook Pro In addition to its functionality, Apple Inc. gave Macbook Pro a cultural connotation in its design and presentation. Often computers are not accredited or recognized as works of art. However, the uniqueness of Macbook Pro makes it more of an art object with cultural value with computer functionalities and capabilities. The group of designers within Apple Inc. who developed the Macbook Pro incorporated the Asian culture into this product. The Asian culture was specifically incorporated in the minimalist design of this cultural artifact (Siglin 49). The designers incorporated cultural aspects into the design of this product as a way of making it a unique brand for specific functionalities as opposed to attending to the general computational needs of users. Social cultural perceptions have been associated with the Macbook Pro. This includes the recognition that the brand has achieved in the market in terms of efficiency, aesthetic and functionality. In this regard, this cultural artifact is associated with its use in artistic production, graphic design and video editing and production. This means that Macbook Pro has a close association with art and design. The Macbook Pro has changed views on tools of art and design. In the Renaissance and Roman periods, the tools of art were rarely given recognition as compared to the artists and designers themselves. In this regard therefore, Macbook Pro acts to represent the changes in design and the application of cultured technological tools in the digital age of 21st century to achieve quality and efficiency in art and design.
