The story pours in emotions, sympathy, bitterness and emotional vulnerability to my mind. When I look from the perspective of a brother, I deeply understand the protective mentality of Pharaoh and the care and concern he has for his sibling. It deeply touches my heart as I experience the sacrifice and struggle a tender mind goes through in order to secure the life of his loved ones. The story has many instances where one, would contemplate on the delicateness of human feelings and values. Life can be good or bad but it is the loving nature of an individual which makes the difference.

The book has allowed me to imbibe qualities like perseverance, sacrifice, consideration and loving service. The story showcases the gang violence in their neighborhood which recalls the terror and violence existing in the cities of America, when I relate this story to my personal life I remembers one incidence when I encountered a gang while I was walking to our local library.

I recall the fear and tragic filled vibration of the event, even it was momentary. So when I compare it with the life of Pharaoh I could imagine the frustration, desperation and humiliation involved in their life. Also I understand how it is to be a mother who financially and emotionally supports the family in the presence of a drug abused husband. The novel emphasize on my personal values like justice, morality and determination. The mental strength of the child Pharaoh and his mother is a great motivation for me to go ahead in life against all odds.

After reading this book , I also feel more connected to my family , especially my mother as it
