Real E Sustainability Standard Chartered Bank has employed a number of methods in the sustainability of the real e portfolio within the Bank. The sustainability methods that are employed by the bank comprise of an innovative strategy aimed at minimizing energy, waste, and water across the corporate real estate portfolio. The other method that the Bank employs is the environmental footprint. The company regards the footprint of the environment critical in the sustainability of its real estate portfolio.

In order to realize these methods of improving the sustainability of the bank’s real estate portfolio, the bank applies innovation to the maintenance and building of the energy and resource competent buildings. Therefore, the elevated performance by the standard chartered bank has resulted from its investments in energy proficient technologies that are within its buildings, inclusive of the smart lighting, the photovoltaic panels, effective cooling systems and water recycling among others.

Standard chartered approaches the issue of sustainability of the real estate portfolio using four elements that include planet, profit, people and project ((Siemens, 2012).The methods that are employed in improving the sustainability of the real estate portfolio by the bank usually require a number of tools to support the improvements and deliver the major indicators such as access to energy and sanitation. The existing tools and management systems employed currently by the Bank include sustainable foot printing, LEED, BREEAM, and the IPD Environment code.

These are the key assessment tools used by the bank for evaluating sustainable real estate portfolio. These tools normally go beyond measuring the efficiency of energy on a building and incorporate the spatial, economical and social aspects enabling the approach on planet people profit and project to be an extremely sustainable approach on real estate.BREEAM, which is one of the available tools at SCB (Standard Chattered Bank) for improving the sustainable real estate portfolio, is an environmental profiling type that assesses the environmental performance and construction material of a portfolio.

The tool assesses transport, waste, water, heath, and energy among other things. The tool, which allows for a stimulation of demand for sustainable buildings and mitigation of the influences of a building on the environment, has been employed by the Bank and key indicators achieved in its implementation. Standard Chattered Bank recently secured an improved tool referred to as BREEAM “Excellent”. The new tool utilizes the low energy technologies in its installations thus delivering a financial building of high or elevated resilience level besides being extremely satisfying and delighting given that SCB displays commitment to low energy.

The SCB (standards Chattered Bank) has also implemented the IPD environmental code as a tool for improving real estate portfolio. The code is a god practice for the analysis, collection and reporting of the environmental information performance because the code relates to the corporate buildings like the ones set up by the bank. The code is applicable to the Bank and thus assists the bank improve the methods of real estate portfolio sustainability through achievement of targets and tracking of changes over a period.
