Policy initiatives should combine both regulative and investment measures. The initiatives and solution should be aimed at reducing and ending over reliance on coal by switching to green and clean energy sources. The government and organizations should also embark on mass public awareness of measures to combat air pollution and how they can contribute towards improving air quality in the country. Air pollution refers to substances introduced into the atmosphere that have damaging effects on living things and the environment.

This substance introduced into the atmosphere are referred to as pollutants, which may take the form of gasses, solid particles, or liquid droplets. Pollutants can be either natural or fabricated in origin. These pollutants can be either primary or secondary (Cook, 2014). Primary pollutants are produced from a process such as sulfur dioxide released from factories, carbon monoxide from motor vehicles, or volcanic ash from volcanic eruptions. Secondary pollutants are emitted from reactions in the atmosphere when primary pollutants react.

Air pollution is the release of toxic substances mostly gasses to the atmosphere that cause harmful effects that lead to degradation of the environment. People in the republic of China have experienced severe air pollution in the recent time. The statistics from the ministry of environment has revealed that long-lasting large-scale hazy weather affects 600 million people living in 17 provinces, which is one-quarter of Chinas population. With regard to Chinese government dealing with the situation, the ministry of environmental protection and the general administration of quality supervision and inspection and quarantine have released Ambient Air Quality Standards (AQSIQ) on 29 Feb. 2012. Pollution serves as one of the broader topics of the environmental issues facing present-day Chinese society.
