The lack of qualified American nurses has proven to be an almost insurmountable problem as our hospitals continue to hire non-Americans in order to fill in the work force. These people do not understand the American way of life and society as an American would. These are the nurses who have lowered the standards of nursing care in America today. That is what I want to change, these are the reasons why I have decided to become a nurse. There are many people who choose to become nurses because of the big money that they know can be made from the profession.

But a nurse without a heart is not a good nurse. I believe that I was born to become a nurse because of my compassionate nature and loving character. Traits that I believe can help me become a future leader in the field of nursing. You see, in 3 or 5 years, I see myself as finally becoming an administrative nurse with my own staff to supervise. This is a career plan that I created for myself with the vision of helping to raise the standards of the nursing profession in our country. I realize it is a tall order to fill but it is one that I am willing to undertake because of my past experience in the nursing field.

Well, technically, the experience that I had in the past was actually in the dental field as an assistant but I believe that it could qualify as an experience that helped direct me towards a nursing career. I had patients coming in for dental appointments who had swollen jaws due to tooth infections and the like. Each time I came across such cases, I would go out of my way to make sure that they at least got a pain killer while waiting their turn with the dentist. I did my best to let them know that I was there for them and I was doing my best to help them heal before the doctor got to them.

The idea to attend nursing actually came from a number of those patients whom I helped. They pointed out to me that I had the intelligence, skills, and ability to become a successful nurse if I just took the time to get the proper nursing education and training. Since I am currently a crossroad in my life, I decided, why not give nursing a try? I guess that is what makes me one of the unique applicants to your nursing school. I do not consider any experience I had as a dental assistant as a negative one.

Simply because each person I came across and helped successfully or unsuccessfully served to teach me a lesson that I would not have learned had I not crossed paths with that particular individual at that specific point in time. I realize that nursing school is not easy to complete. The course requires me to sacrifice a tremendous amount of personal time in order to complete the requirements of the course load I am enrolled in. Thankfully I am work at a part time job that will allow me to devote ample time to my studies and I have the financial support of both my family and study grants that I may possibly qualify for.

As a student at your school, I shall bring with me my inborn intuitiveness and curiosity about human anatomy and physiology. I am fully committed to fulfilling my nursing dream by committing myself totally to the nursing program until I see it to its completion because life is very precious to me and as a nurse, I will be entrusted with the lives of those around me. It is my intention to train myself fully in the art of patient care and diagnosis in order to ensure that none of the lives that I am assigned to care for will ever be placed in any sort of danger or harms way.

I know that I can become a world class nurse in the future if I am given a chance to prove myself. After all, I managed to nurse my own children successfully through their individual bouts with the H1N1 virus and asthma attacks. Their
