Ordinal scales are more precise and can be used to measure such as in the case of transplant recipients; they are given a number which identifies their order on the list based on items such as symptoms and severity, type and cross matching, and the timing of the request. When there is availability the next person eligible on the list is called. Nominal scales can be used for race, gender, and identification of patients. Interval scales are used for items such as F temperature where the measurement where the measurement if ordered from high to low.

The ratio scale is the most precise measurement and can be used for items such as the weight scale. ReferencesBadger, F., & Werrett, J. (2005). Room for improvement?
