Transfer Request Successful careers and professional practices are to the influence of many different factors. The decision to pursue nursing emanates from my interests, inspirations, motivations, and experiences that I have had socially and academically. At a persona level, I have worked as a CNA in several occasions. During this time, I helped take care of my terminally ill aunt. She was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, and her last year of life was extremely difficult. Before she passed on, I helped with hospice services to ensure that she led a comfortable life amid the illness.

Over and above taking of care of my aunt, I have had significant exposure to ER nurse experiences. Over time, these experiences have established a strong foundation that is now the basis of my bid to enroll in the nursing program. My passion, the ultimate goal, is to continue working for and with patients in ensuring the many different illnesses they suffer do not jeopardize their self-esteem or general personal welfare. The essence of being a nurse is to ensure that patient needs, interests, and welfare is accounted for at all times.

Great nurses do not only execute their duties and responsibilities as defined by their job description, but also go a step further to interact and relate with patients in ways that enhance treatment, care, recovery, and the general quality of life of the patient. Such nursing practices encompass therapeutic communication approaches to care-giving procedures. The patient should feel that his/her needs, interests, and concerns are the priority both and across the nursing setting. This makes it easy for nurses to execute their mandate using innovative strategies that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.

Personally, I have patience with patients. I accord my attention to their welfare in a way that maintains nurse-patient boundary, while meeting their expectations at the same time. In so doing, communication, empathy, and emotional balance are critical. As much as I strive to take care of patients, I would not want them to feel as if it is a death sentence to be taken care of. In other words, the underlying personal dedication to nursing practices requires control, balance, and stability. In this respect, transferring to the nursing program will nurture and subsequently enhance my knowledge, skills, practice, and professionalism in nursing.

Success in the nursing program is paramount. If accepted to the nursing program, my strategy for success is to make use of mentorship programs that target student and/or practicing nurses. Drawing from the experiences and insights of mentors, I plan to become an innovative nurse who transforms or improves service delivery using culturally responsive practices. In essence, the strategy here is to understand the dynamics of nursing practices within healthcare environments that exhibit unique individual differences.

In conclusion, I also plan to keep in touch with the diverse student, faculty, and alumni community in the program. Doing so will not only come with networking opportunities, but also great personal, academic, and professional resources for future success.
