"Locating Credible Databases and Research" is an engrossing example of a paper on care.

Nurses are tasked and expected to provide effective care, which can only be delivered through recent research. The application of recent research provides the patients with the best outcomes since it is based on the best available evidence. Additionally, recent research equips nurses with current evidence-based practice making it possible to use scientifically proven and critically appraised methods of delivering quality health care. Besides, nurses get the opportunity to apply medical skills that are investigated. For these reasons, nurses must know how to locate credible databases for research. Nurses who know how to locate recent research are better positioned to apply safe and quality health care methods. These nurses are also in a position to assume leadership roles in terms of expertise. Therefore, as a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, it is essential to supervise nurses in locating evidence for application within the nursing practice scenario. Such roles are executed using strategic communication and leadership skills in healthcare (Athanasakis, 2013).

There are various databases and sources used in researching current evidence-based practice in nursing. They provide healthcare workers with research material on how to apply clinical scenarios. Some of these sources are government or institutional policy websites, accredited scientific databases, hospital websites, or policies released by credible institutions such as WHO or FDA. Strategic use of information from these sources helps nurses communicate and locate the best information on caring for patients (Galassi et al., 2014). For instance, during my role as a baccalaureate nurse, a case presented itself on one of the three nurses, I was supervising on the medical-surgical floor. The patient was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder of the gastrointestinal tract called Crohn’s disease. It is an inflammatory disease caused by the immune system attacking healthy tissues, which is also chronic.

From the previous description, it is evident that Crohn’s disease is a complicated medical condition, and healthcare workers should have the current evidence while treating the patients. The condition is made complicated by the fact that it is an autoimmune disorder, a chronic, and inflammatory disease. There are different forms of treatment for the disease, such as medication or surgery. However, these treatments do not offer a cure but give patients a chance to lead normal lives. These factors make it crucial for the nurse on the medical-surgical floor to have a credible database and best practices in dealing with the patient. Various sources provide reputable information on the disease. Some of these sources include CINAHL Complete, John Hopkins Medicine, Cochrane library, PubMed, and MEDLINE. These sources have recent information on Crohn’s disease include surgical procedures and requirements.

The five sources were identified to provide information on the best evidence for diagnosis. It is crucial to communicate the current methods since the disease has different variations depending on the specific part of the affected digestive tract. For instance, the research found in the Cochrane library under the digestive disease search tab identifies four types of Crohn’s disease, which include; ileocolitis and politics, politics, and jejunoileitis, which affect the ileum, colon, and jejunum, respectively (Ueno et al., 2019). Each type has a specific treatment, and so do the surgical procedures. Therefore, the nurse should carry out research, especially before taking the surgery to treat the disease. John Hopkins Medicine explains that there are two types of surgeries carried out to treat the disease and that more than 70% of people with the disease need either of the surgeries (Hopkins Medicine, n.d). However, another research in CINAHL explains that only people with severe symptoms need surgery and suggests that surgery happens because the disease is chronic, and it is easily ignored (Matsuoka et al., 2018).
